Just to illustrate that in England we always get stuffed here's a bit about bike ownership and insurance in Austria.

Realising that if you are the sole registered owner / rider of a machine the Austrian government says that as you can only ride one bike at a time then the following is what they do: -
1. a single transferable number plate is used for all bikes.
2. a single insurance, base on the most powerful bike is bought.
3. each bike must have a TUV (MOT) sticker
4. only one bike is allowed to be driven / covered by the insurance at any one time

This seems soo logical and easy why don't we do it!
