Mr. R - just to clarify, Bimota made a number of Ducati-engined bikes: DB4, DB4sr, Bimota Mantra (used a 904cc SuperSport engine), the DB6, and the current DB7 - which uses a Ducati 1098 engine. They are also coming out with a higher-spec version that utilizes the new 1098R engine. - Which will be interesting to see as I've ordered a 1098R.

In so far as the engine number is concerned, I'm 100% sure that is a genuine Ducati engine number. They weren't all done with factory stamps... particularly the older ones. I'm looking right now at a 996 RS crankcase, scribed: KH 69 0001 - which is one of the more unusual numbers I've seen.

Just know that some of them are hand-scribed and others are stamped. In many of the older engines, the scribings are on the left-hand side. For the newer engines (liek the testastretta) they are stamped on the right-hand side.

I can research this further. As many files as I have (well over 7000 pictures), I didn't see anything, but I'm absolutely sure that is a Ducati VIN. Just say the word and I should be able to confirm this for you tonight (U.S. - EST time).
