New Brakes, new Forks.....

So, following from a previous thread enquiring about brake lines, the brakes/forks project is finished;

Brembo HP Radial calipers gripping onto Brembo HP discs (15mm offset) on Showa forks but rebuilt with PVM radial mounts, K-tech internals and Ti-nitrided tubes. Got the brake lines from BSR aerotek and all fitted together yesterday, first ride out today.

Initially brakes a little weak, due to new pads/discs/grease etc but a few miles into the ride things started to improve, now very strong, much improved feel, no fade when hot and no 'wooden' feeling that standard 916's suffer.

Suspension also improved, mainly by being more compliant & plusher yet feeling every bit as 'solid' - a similar improvement to when I swapped the rear Showa for Ohlins, overall the bike just feels better, might have a play with some of the settings tomorrow but thinking it will be hard to improve.

One other benefit is that the new discs, along with titanium bolts are lighter than the previous so a useful reduction in unsprung weight into the deal.

Couple of gratuitous pics;

Project inevitably ran a 'little' over budget but I'm happy with the end result which along with various past mods makes my 916 a little bit special - much as I'd like a new bike, the old 916 still does it for me..........
