I would suggest you have at least a few lessons at least.
the easiest way is to find a good local bike school and get them to asess you. they will tell you how many lessons they think you need and can arrange your test for you (once you have passed your bike theory test).
Once you pass on a 125 you can ride virtually any bike as long as it is restricted for the first 2 years.
Take your test soon - things change this autumn and it won't be as easy.

Afraid thats not quite right...if you take your full test on a 125, I think you'll find you are limited to riding a bike of under 35Kw...you have to take your test on a bike that has at least that power in order to ride a bigger bike.
If you take your test on a 35kw bike and are under 21, you are still restricted for 2 years to a bike of that power. If you are over 21 then you can ride any bike.
