belt service, what should be done?
hi all, i picked my 916 up over the weekend, it needs to go back as its running rich, lumpy at low revs and shooting 2 foot flames out of the exhausts !, they told me its a sensor that needs taking out , cleaning and replacing and its not uncommon. what ****es me off is they had it a week and obviously didnt start it after they had done the service to check all was well so now i have to take it back to them, anyway my question is this:
on a belt service what should they do, as for the last couple from 2 different places they dont give you a break down of all work done and just a simple bill with belt service written on it and a cost of £460, it was nearer to £600 for the previous place. i'm pretty sure they didnt change brake or clutch fluid and the cable tie is still on the rear wheel nut clip so that hasnt been off either. should everything be checked and replaced on this service or is there a more "major service" than a belt service ???????? if so what should you ask for to check everything is it the "bend me over a bit more service" ???
i've been told that next year it'll only be around £200....................... for an oil and filter change and possibly a fuel filter !!!!. i think i'll be doing it myself then but its just nice to have a fully stamped service book. i dont mind paying the money if i know the jobs been done but its very easy for some dealers to do the minimum and charge the maximum and if anything does go wrong just tell you its totally unrelated to anything they should have done as part of the routine service.
let me know your thoughts i'd be very interested in them
thanks
ian
