I notice this thread is quite old, so not sure how far through you are with this job but a comment on the clutch slip.
This is a common problem with the wet clutch SS'. As stated some people have found things to be better running semi synthetic, but a full synth motorcycle oil should still be ok for use with a wet clutch.
I picked up a tip from some of the DDers and endorsed by Neil at Cornerspeed. An extra drive plate at the base of the pack increases the spring preload. I did this on my wet clutch 750ss when I replaced my friction plates, no more slip issues. It seems that the standard clutch is pretty marginal, even with new plates and springs.
