I took the switch off my '96 SS when I got it, I like to let it warm up a bit on the side stand before I set off. I got the new IE out the other day and it has the cut off switch still on, it took a few minutes to realise thats why it wouldn't start what a pain...

I still start all bikes I ride with the clutch lever pulled in, even starting a car I drop the clutch, it's a habit I picked up when I worked in the motor trade, you never know if someone before you left it in gear or (in the case of early Ducati electrics) if the neutral light is correct.

I suppose it's down to personal preference, set it up the way you like it and you won't go far wrong.
