I am not sure that it is a serious touring machine, it would do the miles I am sure but I would question the comfort. I have a gel seat on mine and still feel the strain after a couple of hours. Although great fun to ride and the handling is great.
I have the standard 1000DS and I do not have any problems with the suspension, I have not yet and probably will not, reach the bikes limits. Perhaps I am not trying hard enough

I would definately blag a test ride as it could be one mans meat another mans poison, type of thing. If nothing else you will have a hoot for an hour or so.
There is also some very good luggage available for the multi.
