IMHO, if you like the idea of riding a race rep, go for the 848. If you intend commuting or like the Monster riding position, go for the S4Rs.

Both are great bikes, but my preference is for grunt and ridability on the road. For me, that has to be the S4Rs. I've got a sportsbike for the track and it does that very well, whereas the S4Rs doesn't. Likewise, the sportsbike doesn't do the road very well whereas the S4Rs is perfect.

If you want sustained speeds on a Monster, get tucked in. Rest your chest on the tank and you'll miss a lot of the wind blast just like you do on a faired bike. I did that for four hours in the wind yesterday...
