Is a full system an advantage on a race track, when you'd be spending most of the time in the top range, or do you think a half system still works better?

Also I have a 50/54 half system that I was thinking of converting for the R, is this worth doing or would I be wasting my time? I heard somewhere that 54mm doesn't give any performance gain over a 50mm anyway, but is quieter, which i don't get at all.

It's all rather confusing...
Exhaust header pipe diameter does start to get very technical, apparently the optimum header pipe area should be 1.16 times the exhaust valve open area.Word is that the 45/50mm system works best on a 748 in most situations.A 54mm system would need larger exhaust valves and higher lift cams to work properly.
Race exhausts grew in diameter and thin wall pipe to keep within the noise regulations, the 748 RS used a 54mm "tapered muffler" system to comply with the noise regs.To achieve the same noise levels with a 50mm system would have cost 2-3hp,but with better low/midrange.
Its really all about a couple of horse power here and there, vital in the race world....not so for road use.And of course the bling factor!.
