Remove the old ones with a stanley knife (obviously you have to throw them away after, but they're only £6 a pair!). Alternatively, work a small screwdriver down and spray WD40 into the gap.
I always use hairpray when fuitting grips, I find Silverkrin works best for some reason. Warm the grips first in hot water or with a hot air gun, spray liberally internally with hairspray (make sure you get the right one, the throttle one has a larger internal diameter than the left one!) and slide it on. Hairspay is slippery when wet so the grip slides on easily using the hairspray as a lubricant, then when the hairspray dries it goes sticky and glues the grip in place.
