The foggy reps had a different plaque on the head stock. As previously mentioned the SPS series have a SPS plaque with the build number, also other quick checks look around the headstock area for the stearing head angle adjustment, lift the seat and check the sub-frame it should be alloy not steel (not a garantee but will tell you if is mutton dreased as lamb), check the engine serial number it should have "996" in it as this refers to the dispacement. All genuine SPS engines are 996cc and a quick visual check of the cam boxes the front one should be plain, and the engine cases should also have a slightly rough appearance. Good service history is important as well.
They are awsome pieces of kit and the engine is a marvel with tones of torque all over the rev range. I count myself lucky to have one of these beasts, but there again I'm biased.
