Alt-berg boots were made for riding - Telegraph

I'll be considering a pair when I'm ready for new boots.

I've got a pair of the Clubman Lightweight jobbies. Absolutely superb comfort. I didn't go through the palaver of getting them fitted but ordered them over the phone. I would say they are very comfy, totally waterproof, warm, solid, great to walk in, but they are definitely not sexy like Astars or the like.
They just came out top yet again on the Ride readers survey, but what surprised me was that they rated real high for protection. I wouldn't like to crash in them as they are really just leather. There is no hard plastic or carbon/kevlar type reinforcement on them. A great boot for Autumn/Winter/Spring use. A bit too warm for Summer though.

Hi,
I also have a pair I use in poor weather to commute (most of the time then!), I think mine are the lightweight Clubmans, although they're only light' in comparison with fairly heavy boots.
I've had mine for quite a few years now, (at least 6 years) they've been great, never let in any water and only now has the leather started to crack, probably my fault as I've neglected to polish them often enough and the gear change patch has worn right through.
But that said the're pretty bomb proof, if a little clumpy for use with dainty Ducati rearsets.
I'll buy another pair when these give up the ghost, which I think will still be another few years yet.
I can't say any better than that..................
Highly recommended.

Steve

I've had a pair of Hoggs for about five years - again, comfortable (I could walk all day in them, hike in them even) and totally wterproof.
Steve, send them back to Altberg for refurbishment - costs about £40 a pair and they come back as new.

I have been to the Alt-Berg shop in Richmond.

Had some made to measure boots for a deployment to Iraq!

Also got a another pair for everyday work in the Army.

If you get a chance pop in the shop on the industrial estate in Richmond, N Yorkshire.

The factory is attached to the shop. But I know a few bikers who get there boots from Alt-berg.

FCUK me Man!
I know I said they were bomb proof, but you're taking it to extremes!
I think mine would be a bit tooooo hot on the feet for Iraq, but I know where you're coming from.
I live near Plymouth and have a few mates who are 'Boot Necks' and they also swear by Alt-Berg's.
I've never heard a bad word about them, as I said before mine have never let water in, which is more than I can say about many other makes of boot that I've owned before!.......
Short of DUNLOP wellies.

Alt-berg boots are just awesome.... I used a pair of their jungle boots for a year in Sierra Leone last year and wore em every day and they still look good and do their job.

Smile Altberg boots

I bought mine so I could ride to a paragliding site, walk up the hill with my paraglider on my back, launch and then ride the bike home.

The paraglider has gone but the boots remain - I use them on cold days.
