Red face Passed my test and oh ho!

I passed my full test a couple of weeks ago and have been lurking on here, absorbing some knowledge and with one eye on the classifieds......

Imagine my surprise when I double checked my newly returned license to find that some of my offences have dissappeared (SP30, SP60 and an IN10 - 2002,2003 and 2004 respectively) to be replaced by an TT99.

As I've decalred my IN10 ever since I got it (got caught 45 mins after buying a car without insurance - comletely own fault, total kn*b) I didn't think too much of it - did some insurance quotes and found out that it's all doubled because of this! Aaarrrggghhhhh!

What I don't understand is - is that the day of the court case (I got 7 days ban and 100 quid btw) The court took my license and endorsed it with IN10 = £100, 0 Points.

The DVLA says I was banned under totting up, if that was correct, why didn't the court endorse it with TT99 from day one.

For the last 4 years I've been driving around with a license endorsed with IN10 - declaring that to the insurers - and now the DVLA says "we've always had it down as a TT99".

I wouldn't be bothered, but I've spoke to my existing insurers and now my car premiums are going up - and the nice 749 I had my eye on has just doubled to insure.....

Anybody else had anything like this?

Gaaarrgggghhh!

Anyhoo - Howdy all!

Nick

Police do have the power to issue a fixed penalty of £ 60 plus 3 penalty points on the spot, but not when it comes to GATSO cameras. For those cases, they must go to court. Each offence on the same day, but at different places is counted separately. This can result in disqualification under the 'totting' procedure:
Totting Procedure: If the total of penalty points reaches 12 or more within 3 years, you are known as a "Totter". You get a TT99 endorsement on your license, and get disqualified.

So you're a complete Totter then?

Aye maybe ;-)

Thing is tho - I wasn't banned under totting up, if I was my previous SP30 and SP60 should have dissapeared - they didn't, they were complimented with an IN10.

My point is, how can 4 years after the offence this lot all change into a TT99?

To recap, 3 points in 2002, another 3 in 2003 and then a straight 7 day ban ZERO points - resulting in SP30,SP60 and IN10 on my license all at the same time.

If I was done under totting up I should have had ONLY a TT99 from the date of conviction in 2004.

What actually happend was 4 years later I pass my bike test in 2008 and license comes back with only TT99.

Welcome, Nick. Sorry to hear of the totting up troubles . And, as Dan says, good luck with the 749.

Tell me about it - when it was an IN10, the insureance companies weren't too bothered - largely because it was only a 7 day ban I guess.

Now it's a TT99 the insurance has doubled :-(

It's not all doom and gloom forever though, If I can't sort this mess out - it'll all drop off my licence by August 2009 anyway.

To be honest I really want an 848 (Well if we're aiming high it's Desmosedici :-P ) but given this insurance SNAFU I'll settle for any Ducati...

It looks like I can insure a 600SS for about 260 quid, so next year with a clean license and 1 years no claims that 749 is looking more practical.

Still, the way my bike test felt - It's a wonder I'm here at all!(I meant the forum not alive!)

I had bin wagons reversing into the narrow street I was coming out of, loads of learner car drivers out to get me and a berk pulling out on me on a major roundabout despite my road position, indicator and even bloody eye contact being made.

The company I work for (a certain unpopular satellite TV company) has decided to offer us two wheelers a place on an IAM course - needless to say I'm biting their hands off for that.

Regardless of how good/bad it may be - there'll be some benefit to me doing it I reckon.
