DAS Test 8:10 in the morning...
I had my DAS test at 8:10 this morning - which meant getting up before 6, and driving over to pick up the bike and instructor from RideSure at 6:45 in the mist and fog and then riding into Guildford. Got there early and Trevor took me onto a couple of housing estates to practice my U-turn as that was the thing that I was least confident about - did 4 of them with no problem so off we went to the test centre got there and it was too early for the cafe to be open so no coffee before going out
Anyway went out with the examiner, did all the stuff . . . and passed - hurrah , got 3 minors two where related to missing a 40 sign so ended up doing 30 for a while in that limit and then didn't pull away smoothly at a junction - other than that all done!
Trevor, the instructor at RideSure, is a great bloke and certainly helped me crack the u turn and get everything else sorted, so thanks to him.
Just got to get a bike now

yay well done!!! i hated doing my u-turns. i failed on that. and once you've done your test you never need to do them again. my whole test thing was a horrible experience. when i failed they left me sitting outside on my own for 20mins in the rain even though i asked them to call my instuctor to come get me.

Bravo I did 3 minors as well.
1. Apparently to wobbly during U-Turn?? I was going less then 5mph what the hell he expects?
2. No leg down when stopping at red light. Funny enough I never stopped I was going 1 mph waiting for light to change. I do that a lot and my instructor was impressed that I could keep it like that.
3. To late to slow down from 50 to 40 mph.
Now go and get that 749s from 2004 or up in Yellow or Much cheaper black but then upgrade it with steering dumper and other missing bits. Forget about Red
With U-Turns the case is:
- I informed my instructor that I am getting a Ducati so will not be able to do a U-Turn unless road is 2.5 lane wide.
- Did the same for my examiner and yet still had to do it.

I have got my eye on a dark 749, but need to get clearance from the finance committee first

Congratulations on the success, Rupert

.Regarding the potential new bike....
There is a motto often heard on this site which you may or may not yet have come across....
"It is easier to obtain forgiveness than permission"
You aint seen me an I never told you that.

Rupert,
Congrats on the pass. Dead chuffed for you. I had trouble with my U turns and I went the wrong way at a junction but still managed to pass (With 4 minors). At one stage I left the instructor miles behind (he was in a Car) and I was really worried he'd just gone back to the test center!
I already had my 749 waiting for me when I passed but it took me a few months to get insurance, tax and MOTs sorted. I did have another bike at the time to ride however. I have a 749 Dark and I've spent a bit bringing it to a sort of hybrid S/R model. I have the Termi system, Ohlins shock, Ohlins steering damper, Mono seat conversion (Carbon and ally subframe) adjustable rearsets (aftermarket and more adjustable than the S model). I'm quite pleased I went this route as:
-The Dark is lovely as it is, and I was able to enjoy the standard bike even without the goodies.
-It is good fun making modifications and choosing custom bits.
-You'll end up with a unique machine.
Further upgrades for me are:
-Magnesium headlight support
-Ohlins front forks
-More power! (In some form)
Hope to see you in the 749 forum shortly! Cheers,
Ed
