Aw, bad luck! I really can't see the point in the U-turn requirement in the driving test, as if it really was that important. I never do a U-turn on mine unless I have to, and then I usually put my foot down just to be on the safe side, or get off the bike and push it around. They should concentrate on more important things, judging by what I see daily in Central London.
When's the resit?

wheelies and stoppies
I think the idea of the u-turn is to demonstrate slow speed control, which can be useful, although the u-turn per se isn't that useful.
And bad luck BTW

I failed on that first time. All I'd say is hire a bike for as long as possible before the retest and practice as much as possible.
U-turn is pretty pointless, particularly with the turning circle on mine. Not sure I could do a turn on a regular road in 1 go!

The U turn may not be useful in everyday riding, but it does demonstrate to the examiner that you are able to control the bike at low speeds using clutch slip and light brake etc, thus proving a level of proficiency in use of the controls.
Bad luck on the fail, next time . . . . .

Bad luck -the same happened to me. The examiner even gave me a second go at it and I messed that one up too!
I hope you get chance to take it again soon. All the best people pass second time.

Better luck next time.
Would a U-turn done in the stunter burnout style be a pass if you didn't put your foot down?

3rd time car, 1st time bike. Don't know what that means, but after spending so much emotional energy on the car test i was NOT going to go through that again for the bike.
Bad luck for the test but you go to the next one knowing your weaknesses which is SOLID GOLD, besides it was probably just nerves. Any important test is 30% ability and 70% confidence i believe.
A zen like calm required for the next one. Good luck!

Sorry to hear of the mishap. Might be worth buying an oldish 125 just to practise on. You'd lose next to nothing when you sell it on. And you'd have the fun of making a bonfire of the L-plates.
