Moto Rapido Racing 1098R in BSB

Hi Guys,

I know plenty of you are customers and supporters of our little showroom and race team and with the crazy start to the superstock seires this year (guess you've seen the ruling on 1098R not being allowed in superstock) i thought i would keep you all up to speed.

we were due to be running a pair of 1098R's in BSB superstock this year, but at the last minute we were told that this model was not going to be allowed to race.

Our options:

1. dont race
2. race the s model, even though we had bought and build the R model and taken sponsorship based on this.
3. race the R model in the main race, British Superbikes.

so we have gone slightly mad and at just a few weeks notice entered leon morris into the british superbike privateer cup!

Thanks for your interest, here is all the info so far...

Wilf
moto rapido

**************************************************

Team name: Brookspeed Moto Rapido Racing

With the last minute news that the 1098R will not be allowed to run in British National Superstock 1000 we have taken a big, very big, leap forward and decided to move directly into the top class of motorcycle racing in the UK. The British Superbike series.

The format for racing now is Leon Morris will be riding our 1098R in British Superbikes Privateer Cup, on the grid on the main race!

Some tech info:

Bike – 1098R
Note : As the control tyres are 16.5” in Superbike, and the bike comes as standard (as all road bikes) with 17” wheels, we have an agreement to run the 17” wheels for the first 3 races, while this is a disadvantage, we have little choice. It also means that the only tyres available within the rules are Metzeler slicks. To make things harder at first, we have to run a superstock spec bike (basically a stock road machine!) until we can conform to the BSB Superbike rules and then prepare the bike to full Superbike trim.

New wheels are being made by Marchesini as we speak!

The team format:

A combination of two racing companies make up the team…

Brookspeed International Motorsport Limited are the team. They run the show! Team boss is Martin Braybrook - their background is British GT car racing and have a proven record of racing success at the highest levels internationally.

Moto Rapido Racing are supplying and building two 1098R-08 race bikes for Leon, and are in charge of development, maintenance, full trackside technical support and a technical staff.

Sponsorship

Title Sponsor is Trimite – a specialist paint and coatings company: Industrial Coatings for Metals, Plastics, Defence & Aerospace. Powder Coatings & Pretreatment. Wood finishes & Wood finishing.

Other main sponsors :

Lucky Knickers – new and fun underwear company – www.luckyknickers.co.uk
Solent Scientific – Make microscope incubators, a long term supporter of motorcycle racing - http://www.solentsci.com/
Mouslink – IT solutions and web hosting and design – www.mouslink.co.uk
Objektum – Bespoke software specialists – http://www.objektum.com

The budget requirements for entering British Superbikes is far beyond the Superstock series so we are now actively seeking sponsorship. Given the additional coverage and prestige of the title class, our current sponsors are very pleased with the move and have all increased their help.

Technical support from :

K-Tech Suspension services
Double take Dyno services - Southampton
Competition logistics – Tyre supplier

Our aims for 2008 and 2009.

As we have started and formed the team in such a short space of time, we have to be realistic about our aims for this year, we are entering the premier level of motorcycle racing in the UK with less than a months notice of the first race, handicapped also by having to use a superstock machine until the regulations can be satisfied we are forced to be realistic, our aim is to qualify and simply to make ongoing improvements to the bikes and team so we can start catching up our fellow racers who are now somewhat ahead in testing and development.

Early tests have shown Leon and the 1098R to be able to meet our expectations and we are very confident that we will soon be where we need to be and scoring points during the 2008 season.

For 2009, without the disadvantages we have had this year, we see no reason Leon can’t be back on top of the podium.

Best of luck.

I'm popping down for my service in June, will the bikes be at the show room in between races for us to drool over?

Goody is racing a 996 SPS this year in SOT with NG. had his first outing last weekend at Brands,

We can't afford to back anyone else this year, i've had to mothball my race bike for the season too, so we can give Leon the best chance we can.

Cheers and good luck!

How did Goody do and when's he at Snetterton (we're old mates and I live in Cambridge, usually try to make Snett Meeting)?
Why 996SPS and not the 1098 he was on last year?

Not sure about snett, I'm not sure if he is doing all the rounds

the 1098s he used last year was our bike, we sponsored him to the tune of a new 1098 last year to do NG. we dont have the budget to do both club racing and BSB this year.

the SPS is his own bike, he's just got it to go racing, we'll help him out with it i'm sure.
