Dealers and Workshops Have you say about the Ducati Dealer or Bike Shop near you. How good was the spanner man, what was the price, or did you get a discount?

Bike: Ducati 748

M.D.Racing

Hey,

Just a big shout out for Mike @ M.D.Racing, he was my knight in shining armour...I've posted the story (as it's linked to a problem with my 748) in the 748 section, but here it is to show how dedicated this man is to his job's and Ducati's:

So,

I picked up my bike finally this afternoon from Snell's where I've had an annual service minus the belts. Bike looked great, paid the bill, chatted to the guys, warmed her up etc...

My journey home involved A31 and then onto the M25 heading down towards Reigate near where I live. However...

As I get near the Leatherhead junction something funny happens with the bike.

I notice there is no response from the throttle as I go to overtake someone in the overtakig lane. The bike just wants to cut out, when I let go of the throttle the bike just dies. I have to hold in then release the clutch to effectively 'jump start' the bike at 70mph!!!!

I pull over to the hard shoulder with the bike constantly cutting in and out and park her on the turn off for Leatherhead junction. I get off the bike and can smell a sort of burning smell. Hard to tell where it was coming or what it smelt of (clutch, battery etc) but it definately smelt odd.

I call everyone and eventually got through to Mike at M.D Racing, explained the scenario and 20 mins later he rocks up in his van to rescue me! What a legend, absolutely put everything aside (bearing in mind he's off to Germany early morning to help his sidecar race team out there) to come to my aid.

Oddly, I tried starting the bike soon after I pulled over and it was almost as if the battery had died as all the lights were dim and it wouldn't start. Leaving it for 20 mins and it started fine but didn't seem all there. The engine ticked over ok but the rev counter just flatlined at zero even with me revving the bike.

Mike couldn't diagnose the problem there and then but said he'd had a look at it when he gets back next week! I'm gutted but I don't know how far I can go saying that given the nature of these bikes how it's been fine in the 6 months I've owned it prior to the service but since then this has happened. I wouldn't ever blame anything on where it's been serviced but it's so frustrating it happens now when I thought I was getting my pride and joy back.

Anyone else had a similar problem with successfull diagnosis?

Thank you for taking the time to read this, I will be on here regularly to update!

Cheers,
James.

Cheers mate,

I've got a slight problem though, W.M.Snell phoned me to say (after I let them know of my breakdown!) that they would happily pick the bike up and take a look at it as it might be something they can hold their hands up to!

So, the bike is sitting in Mike's garage in Epsom and Snell want to pick it up to diagnose the problem on their behalf. So I think they would pick it up and look at it as a gesture of goodwill however I've already asked Mike to take a look at it!

Not sure what to do...any suggestions?

Solved!

Right....

The problem was......................the 40a charging fuse under the seat had blown!

Very odd, Mike had only seen this on a few occasions but sure enough that was the problem. Bike back to normal now

Cheers for the help on here, if anyone else has this problem in the future I hope this has been of some help.

James.

Thumbs up M.D.Racing

Big thanks to Mike once again at M.D.Racing, picked up the bike last night after he kindly dropped it off at a local station free of charge!

Without sounding like a cliche this guy goes 110% to make everything perfect. He's honest and so knowledgeable about everything that is bikes. He gave me heads up about my tyres, all the in's and out's of the electrical components surrounding the charging system in case something like this happens again and some idea of what he would have done if I'd taken it to him in the first place!!

I'll definately be booking her in for the big service next year and know that I've got a specialist on the other end of the phone to ask anything, anytime.

Absolute legend, thanks again and I'll be on here more often from now on trying to pass on some advice or just for some friendly banter!

Cheers,
James.
