Air Filters, SS/Monsters

As those of you who were at Mallory know, I had a few carburation issues with my bike, and had to strip all the airbox out. I'm wondering if anyone has tried individual filters and relocation of the battery to make such access so much easier? If so, any hints, tips?

i think the regs state that the airbox has to be ducati oem. you could fit individual filters if you wanted, but they'd have to remain inside the standard box.

I checked that already Trouty, here's what the rules say.....

1.6.15 Air Box

The air box can be removed.

The air filter element may be modified or replaced.

So as far as I can see its an allowable mod......

I just think it might make access easier, its not to seek more performance......

Actually Phil, it isnt.......it really is to make that sod of a job getting all the electrics and airbox off a thing of the past.....individual filters may be suitable, may not, an airbox can be pressurised, individual filters cant so a hike in performance is unlikely anyway......I just want jet changing and such to be a short job, not the hour plus saga it was on Sunday........

here's the thing though... set it up correctly, leave it alone. No worries about airboxes etc after that. Dyno time.

I run the stock airbox, but with no filter at all, apart from a very heavily modifed one that looks just like a grille

Everybody I know that has tried seperate pod filters on the carbs has had really bad problems with setting up afterwards and erratic fueling, and have generally gone back to a standard airbox in the end.

have a natter to Mr Seton as he has some experience with my airbox.

he actually plastic welded one of the holes up in my airbox whereas most people run with them open i think.

Question

When I boiught my bike Kev Mooney advised me that cutting the top of the airbox away and fitting a K&N filter was a good idea.

Can anyone confirm if the second one down on this web-site (33-2003 where it says 'airbox lid must be modified') will fit and is the better choice for extra performance? K&N AIR/OIL FILTERS DUCATI

(the spec on the K&N website doesn't list it as fitting the Monster).

Bike: DesmoDue-Racer!!

I'm with rattler!! I was talkin to a dyno tuning station in nottingham and they said that the air box was a must, as it caused erratic fueling issues, they liked it as it went quicker! but during actual track testing thats were the problems arose.

But David, is it just the issue of accessing that particular area? On my monster i didn't believe it's that hard to get there?(i've had to do it sooo many times now lol!) think i've got it down to about 20 mins? but i suppose if you can get it quicker than that it'll help along the line. Have you put it on a dyno yet fella? I know it's a bit of a steap price but it's gotta be worth it?!
