Can anyone tell me a rough guide to the format at Assen?

I know the dates are 23rd to the 25th but what happens on each day?

I know there is a track/test day, what day is that on? Also I read somewhere that there track days have a 98db (or so) limit on them? Is this true?

thanks, Hugh

okkkk..

you can get into the circuit from about midday on the Thursday, last year there was a local track day on but they wouldn't let us in until we had signed on which was just after lunch so we just chilled in the sun.

Friday is trackday and we will have 3 x 20 minute sessions sound limit is enforced and you will be tested. If your bike is loud bring baffles it's easier!

Saturday is scrutineering and qualifying and we will get 2 x qualifying sessions of about 20 mins (i think) these were just after midday and late afternoon last year

Sunday is race day and we will get one race I am not sure on length but I think it was 8 - 10 laps? This was just after lunchtime last year which allowed time to get packed up and set off.

The rest of the time is your own to chill out, admire the 1000s of ducatis and mooch around the shops selling everything you could want for a ducati!!

I think the noise limit may have been different on the trackday to the race day but i could be completely making this up.

I'm also fairly sure the limit was 104dB because my cans were OK at 102dB and i think Gilps's were about 105.

bring some extra euros (cash best) if you like shopping for bling as there is literally anything and everything you could possibly imagine, and more, for your Ducati. I bought a rev counter for 70 euros last year, and a certain someone i know plumped for a rather spanking pair of Ducati clogs. another someone acquired a Ducati Corse bathrobe.

this year, of course, it will be sunny again. it was SCORCHING last year so i am going to get a base layer (at least for my top half) to go under my leathers, i remember last year wishing i had taken more tshirts and vests and shorts as everything got pretty sticky.

The sound check on the Friday test day is quite severe. My bike passed sound checks at every track day last year in the UK but was too loud for the Assen TD. I fitted DB killers and was OK. Don't think about fitting DB killers to get through sound check then removing them, which is what some naughty people may do in the UK, you won't get away with it in Assen. There is an additional sound check when you go under the bridge on circuit and if you are over you will get pulled in (you could just roll off the throttle I suppose).
Even for the race day I had a problem at sound check as the limit is 104db and I was 105. The scrutineers are very helpful, and with some slight adjustment to the revs and respositioning of the sound probe, I got down to 104.
I think single cans like mine are slightly noisier as all the air movement is coming through one outlet so the twin cans tend to be a little quieter. If you are doing the TD on the Friday then taking DB killers may be a good idea.
One tip which I have not tried is to tie a rubber glove to the end of the can, cut the fingers off, then cut slits in the remainder so you have little rubber flaps left. This apparently disrupts the airflow coming out of the can and confuses the sound meter enough to pass. Noise is only moving air technically.

Yes you could. I know Zimbo is not doing the TD. It seems such a shame though to travel all that way and skip the TD.

it's a shame that Earl, Dan and Imola can't get together and get over there. I reckon it would work out cheaper than going to Pembrey!!

there are garages but no idea how to get one sorted.

Its a hard standing paddock (pukka pukka pukka) and we will all no doubt try to get parked up near each other again as it's a big old place so we dont want to all be miles form each other.

Best location is to turn right and park up along the fence along the back straight

last year it all looked quite serious in the garages, some very very tasty machinery (and shopping!) indeed!

down the back straight sounds perfect though, perfect for a spot of mid-trackwalk refuelling
