Donington Park GP 29/07/08
I Thought about this one CK
It's a little steep at £175 but we do get 10% discount.
Anyone fancy it ?

To be honest Steve I'm of the opinion that Donny is already difficult to justify expense wise, considering it's just one race, more money for less track time than the others, tempting not to go and count it as a dropped result as it is. An expensive trackday on top doesn't appeal much, especially as (a) it's horrible in the wet, so if it rains the day is wasted, (b) donny always brings the lunatics out and most sessions seem to get red flagged, and (c) it's an open circuit with good visability through the corners on all but one (Coppice) so it's possible to go reasonably well there without the track experience. I'll spend my money elsewhere.

Yea i hear ya... but it's a 15 lap minimum single race!!! which is the same basically as 2 single races! and Imola No point payin out for GP when we ian't racin it! also national is cheaper and less 'wanna be's' on the track as it aint the full GP. I'm only interested in the national trackdays, but.... usually i just go up for afternoon, that costs about £60-80, 4 sessions(i think?) Bt gotta get some funding first lol!

I wont be doing a Donny trackday either.....daft noise regs as well as stupidly expensive, horrible in the wet, and I've ridden it enough to know where it goes...but I have to go, as I have already dropped my two races by not going to Pembrey......

Forget the Jumbo Jets taking off over your head Steve.....its road silencers on normal days.....and the test each bike as it leaves the pit lane and pull you in if you are over the permitted level...often only 90dB........and wont let you out unless and until you insert dB killers which work.

Dont panic peeps the noise level is 98DB's on quiet days, yes it is slippy in the wet but i've had no problems thus far? and i didn't think it was more than brands trackdays! i've done a few, and the most i paid was £159 for full noise on the full GP track!
Yea the planes from over but i recon it's an old wives tale! no-one can even verify that claim! no-one! even at the GP the commentators mentioned the 'Urban fuel Myth' I wouldnt worry about it, I've done it in dry and wet, and i'm still here
Imola... when ever you want fella! i'll keep my eye out for cheap days...

I have! It's like riding on ice, and it blood hurt! back end breaking away on the exit of Mcleans, every lap, as you squeeze on the throttle, and finally off on the brakes on the entry to Coppice, one of no less that 11 DD bikes that fell in a single qualifying session I recall . . . . i know a lot of people love Donington, but i'm not one of them. personal opinion of course!

that's true, Brands Oulton and Donny are all much the same price, they're all expensive!

I believe it, it's the most plausible explanation I've come across for the complete lack of grip in the wet, unless anybody else can enlighten us?

Another claim is that the track surface is still very young, Back-int-day i recall someone sayin fuel dumps happen alot but since then it hasn't happened, and like i said the track surface is only 3 years old, Even 'vally' said that was a cause for ant tracks lack of grip.(but it could be the compound)
Actually i recall last year after DOWNLOAD! the track was covered in dust!! so since it's quite a hilly track maybe it could be that too? i dunno, but i understand the overall cost fella...your miles away lol, is there no-one you can share costs with??
Must admit i dont like the whole 'truck attack' thing they have goin on this year!! that track will be ruined!!

Slippy close to an airfield?
Strangely enough, when I used to instruct (untill fairly recently) at one particular yard very close to Fairoaks airfield, Chobham, we would NEVER use the grass paddocks for jumping training in if it had been raining, as the grass was very slippy then indeed. They were located right under the take-off path (or landing if wind other way) of the light aircraft.
My own yard is about half a mile as the crow flies, but is not on the flight path, and the grassy paddocks are not anywhere near as slippery when it rains........
