End Cans..a bit of a grump.
Race bikes being race bikes, nobody is ever satisfied with theirs, and so it is with number 42. One of the changes we want to make is to add some lightness, and a good starting point would be the end cans. Having trawled all manner of web sites, including manufacturers, retailers and ebay, I have yet to find one who quotes the weight of the darned things. Not one. This leads me to believe that these devices are sold exclusively for the bling effect and of course the extra noise, despite being sold as race cans.
Ho-hum...probably just me being naive.
Anyhow, I feel better now I've got that off my chest!

Lol as opposed to removing some heaviness.
I have just disected last night my standard 749 can, what a job 3 hours to get it apart. Anyway it will be a winter task but whilst it won't be as light as some it will be well tucked away.
My thinking being in the event of the obligatory off (need to get faster first) this thing won't or shoudn't get any grief occuring to it.

So, I presume you are only running the one can then. How many people have fitted the two into two exhaust system to supposedly gain more power, whilst actually increasing the weight of the bike?

I dont mean to try to crush anyones ideas here, but whilst weight is important, so is practicality in this series as we have to foot the bill should things go not as planned.
As we all know the min weight for this series is 150kg's.
Let me be the first to say that my bike is nowhere near that figure!
I have the common things changed for aluminium versions and as my bike sits on the grid with 5 litres of fuel it weighs 166.5kg's. Is someone going to now try and tell me that a caliper/disc and exhaust can and link pipe weigh nearly 17kg's?
I run the twin system because it is a copy of the ducati performance system and we figured that they knew what they were talking about, and the twin disc is my preference as I have tried a single disc. Now there are all sorts of ways i which we can make my bike lighter, such as titanium or carbon cans, but at least the stainless ones i have now are dirt cheap to replace when the inevitable happpens.
Just my two peneth, but i'd sooner spend the money on more track time and tyres guys.

A good point well made , Paul. As Ollie says we do have a 2 into 2 system, largely dictated by the availability of headers when we were building the bike. At some point we might want to change that, but the implications for power output might be detrimental. So for now, keeping it simple, we are planning to take the smaller step of replacing the two heavy cans with lighter ones.

Thanks for the comments....it is always good to see what priorities others apply, and when they are from the front-runners, well you just gotta listen and take note.
In fact we will probably do a bit of both track time and weight reduction, but it was only the fact that no-one published the weight of the cans which prompted this thread. To me it seems like selling paint without mentioning the colour.

Your right matt in some ways, but you dont weigh 15 Stone about 95 Kg's so the little weight i can loose from the bike i would like to try,.
I am planning on loosing a bit myself, (actually the Chineese will be here in a min or two!)
also the size of my cans is an issue with my size 11's would like it to be easier for my fit to go over whats behind them,

For crash damage a single underseat can is best. For power a single can is best, with the right headers and link pipe.
For doing all of this, having a healthy bank balance is best in the first place
But ... Matt tells it like it is, at our level there's no substitute for track time. Although having said that, practicing rubbish techniques will get you nowhere as will practising on a bike with suspension fighting you.
