Converting a Class A bike into Class B???

While costing out a decent spec class B bike for me to campaign in next years DD series a collegue asked whether a Class A bike would be eligible to compete in class B if the original 620 engine was replaced with a 583 from an earlier bike?

Would this be legal with regards to the rules? And has anyone done it?

Cheers, Jon.

Oh and Hello to everyone I met at Brands...... Ghost, Nogaromill, Ollie, Imola-Duke... plus all the others (sorry i cant remember all the forum names), was nice to meet you all, despite all the sexual innuendos, haha

Jon,
I don't think you can do this as class B bikes need to be pre 98 carby bikes.
I know you can upgrade a class B to class A spec,
But i may be wrong... A hardened DDer will be along shortly.
Good to meet you at Brands

You'd need to go through the regs to be sure, but as far as I can see the ony differences relate to the engine and carbs/injectors, so replace those with class b compliant ones and you should be ok

I think JPH will be another dark horse, seeing him at the weekend, Miss Riot is carrying more weight than him.

Get those piccies up Jon, also how long is it before PLJ upload their pics??

it seems a rather expensive way of doing things, but yes it is possible.

Thanks for the replies guys, yeah it's probably not the most cost effective route but it's just another option that came up during some workshop banter. I'm very time-poor and buying a sorted bike is an attractive option even tho i'd much prefer to build my own.

Haha, i guess you're referring to my slender frame Phil (i'm a skinny b*stid for those of you who didn't meet me) I'm actually 75kg without gear and i'll be at least another 5kg heavier when i go back to training so i'm far from having a Pedrosa style advantage.

The first thing i'll have to remember if i go DD racing is to keep both feet on the footpegs at all time

Oh, i've put my pics from sunday up in another thread now too

Good to meet you at Brands
Imola Duke - carbie monsters went up to late 2001 (Snotty was one - the one Hugh now has this year) Class B is all 583 engined SS & Monsters

jph98 Ref the swap 'downwards' for an engine - anything is possible, after all if riders are allowed to go 'up' then you should be allowed to go 'down' too.
Mind you, the leader of the RC might have other ideas........drop them an email - but dont hold your breath

Did you come and have a look at my bike in Garage 22 on the Sunday?
It was up for sale?
Looks like I've sold it, but you can have first refusal?

Mark
