DD Endurance racing?

Just looking to initially understand numbers for possible DD Endurance race next year (or later this year?).

Basic outline as per Hottrax events;
Not sure of all details, needs some research, but teams of 2 or 3, each with their own DD bike, 20-30mins each session for 3 hours or similar formats. Transponders are swapped between riders after each stint.

The investment in the machinery is already made and the bike are proving reliable enough (unless you're called Dawson!!). Might be worth a punt!! ???

Tracktime / £ is reasonably cost effective. Better id there are more just DD teams, but even if there are only 2 or 3, it would be a great laugh I reckon.

So again, just gauging interest, if you're interested in doing this, C&P the lost and add your name. I've stuck this on DSC too, you know the one, the politics channel!!!

Tim

I think it's a great idea. You could either continue to have two separate classes, or what I think could make it more interesting, and competetive, would be to have at least one class A and class B bike in each team. Existing eligibility would still apply, so it would have a be a class B rider on the class B bike, not some rent-a-pro. I haven't spoken to TP yet, but if he was up for it I would be happy for him to ride my bike as it is staying in DD trim for next year. So I'll put his name down and remove it if he's too scared to do it.

Why not just enter teams into the Hottrax event? Maybe you wouldn't stand a chance of winning the overall class (600 Supersport with DD bikes), but there's no reason why you couldn't award your own trophies and prizes.

I proposed something similar to this on another recent thread just last week:

Ducatisti 6 hour Endurance Race (or Cannonball Run)

Mallory is coming up, which would be a good track for DD bikes, and Silverstone is the final round of the season.

Getting more bikes on the Hottrax grid will also be a very good thing for the UK endurance scene in general. We need more bikes and teams to continue to ensure this is a viable series for 2009 and into the future.

That's exactly the idea, just enter teams into the Hottrax event(s). But the more DD teams we get the more there is to compete against. I'm not looking for a whole race or series of DD endurance races, just a one-off event and see how it goes.

This has definitely got legs to it

I'd recommend establishing a set of 'definitely interested' teams or parties and then going and talking to Hottrax (or similar) about creating a class for us. It could run alongside any of the other classes but would have its own championship and trophies.

Given how knackered and broke I am today I'd be mostly interested in the short races (3 hours) as they work out around £215/person for 40 mins untimed, 40 mins timed and 3 hours in the saddle (all split between two riders). Seems pretty good value to me and not too long.

To that end, I'm happy to give support, pointers, tips etc to anyone who is interested. I know Trouty also has endurance experience, so should be another good source.

I reckon Hottrax would be quite receptive to anything that will get more bike/teams on the grid. They're even searching for other formats and ideas to help make things more viable for next season.

The more bikes on the grid for the remainder of the 2008 season, the better chance of retaining the true 6 hour format next year. (See this thread on the Endurance board - UK Endurance Racers • View topic - 2009 Endurance Series' - JTE, STE & National - Feedback reqd)

I also believe Hottrax would be very interested in talking to anyone proposing a new series/format for 2009. Perhaps where existing clubs no longer cater for, or provide enough track time for, specialist series.

I should also probably mention in this thread, that I'm currently looking for a team mate for the Cadwell Hottrax Endurance round on August 30th.

If you have a 600 Supersport eligible bike (Jap 600 or 748/749), an ACU licence and would like to race with one of the leading UK endurance teams, please do get in touch!
