Bike: 900ss 600ss DD race

budget so far is £980.
Everything included bike, race fairing, all admin stuff................still waiting

I gave the bike a good run on a private trading estate.
Once hot the revs take ages to drop from 3k rpm to approx 1,200 rpm and one of tthe carbs look's like it is flooding !
So i have removed the carbs for inspection. also the inlet manifold gaskets look suspect too, also the breather pipe which runs between the carbs was kinked !
started to make brackets for the tail piece/seat and made a shark fin guard for the cain/sprocket.
tidying up the wiring which is a little bodged up !
Few questions ??
Where can i get lockwire ? Anyone got a set of pirelli control tyres part worn for sale (Zimbo) ??
The shark fin is a little large ! but will cut down (see pic)
What make brake pads do you recomend ?

i have got PF (performance friction) pads on mine, i only have a single disc and even with this i LOVE my brakes zimbo has them too i think. they really are fabuloso and i'm going to get some for my other bikes too when they need new pads.

PM nogaromill999 about prices as he stocks them.

lockwire, not sure but i reckon you'd pick some up from one of the trucks at the trackday.

Imola

Send a pm to Chass on DSC about tyres. He runs our bikes and we have just taken some tyres off. He is only in Bewdley so pretty handy for you to get hold of them

Thanks Lily will do

My DSC membership arrived today along with all the rules on bike stuff. when i arrived home this evening my new race fairing has arrived, But still no date for Acu course
But no panic !! all looking good for the last round at cadwell.
Still need to strip carbs, and order those snazzy brake pads ! will get hold of David at solocorse
Thanks for your time on the Phone Zimbo
Without help like this it would not be possible, being very green on the racing front.
Zimbo loving the pressure ("you will need more ground clearance")
Can't wait till Cadwell and yes, will be their for the weekend.
I will give the ACU a call tommorow .

I assume you have got your eye test all sorted and forms filled in ready so as soon as you have done your course you can get them signed off.

Assuming you have got ratification by the dsc I would be tempted to send your acu form directly to new era with your entries for Cadwell as they will sign and get it sorted quicker than the DD race committee as they are full time in the office.

as long as you are ratified and know that your course is before cadwell then I would get entries off anyway as new era have ties with acu so it won't delay you racing if they are the ones processing it

If you need any help with building bike up then Chass is just up the road from you and will most likely be able to help you out if you ask him nicely (he likes red wine )

Hi Steve

I have a great roll of locking wire, so if you PM me an address, I'll pop a hank in the post for you. Just give me an idea of how many things you have to lock.

I also have some lock wire pliers, which if you promise to send them back I might loan you as well!!

I think JPM may have contacted you about belly pan as we have one here. It's not perfect, but should work.

Surprised at ACU as they usually have courses every Monday, I would ring and hassle them.

Also worth double checking your ratification with Chris as emails sometimes get 'mislaid'

Bike: 900ss 600ss DD race

Met Chass on Saturday up in bewdley and what a great man ! 8)
Gave me a hell of alot of tips and advice on prep work on my Duke.
I bought a set of part worn tyres, £40 and he gave me a under tray for the 600ss
Explained about ride hight and how to increase it using standard shock with the aid of a bracket and a mig welder which i can do myself
explained where to locate the breather containers and suspension tips.
I need to raise the 916 seat unit as i feel a little cramped on the bike, Chass showed me your bike Lily and how to go about it with brackets etc.
And websites to get budget clipons and rearsets etc,
I supposed to be only a hour away from home put it ended being 3

Dan, I will post up pic's and a more detailed write up asap.

Nice one ID, he is a top bloke and is always willing to help out

I found the bike really cramped at first and have done my best to make more space, but you reack a point where you just have to accept having your knees around your ears

I imagine you have some of my part worns so they should be tons of life left in them as I swap quite regular and they will be great on a 600 as they don't seem to wear the tyres as much as the 620s

Give us a shout if you need anything else
