Been on pause for a while, Steve for one reason or another (wrong fork seal, so waiting for replacement...other commitments etc) and been doing some of the less attractive stuff like cleaning/degreasing engine casings etc. Should be more news in the coming couple of weeks, with pix if I can remember to bring the camera!

while there's a lull in the proceedings I'd just like to say what a great read the thread is!
makes my own winter fettling (oil/filters/bit of spit and polish) look positively puny in comparison. will try and make it to the shake down track day session at Mallory in March?

Cheers for the feed back Infostroller, much appreciated.
Had a bit of a lull as previously mentioned, mainly on my behalf, but all should be full steam ahead again soon we hope, well this wee (was supposed to do tonight but my back caved in was in agony!) Sorry steve i passed out on the bed!!
Now where can i find me a massuse at this time of night!! ah yes up in my bed!!! Woman get ya hands warm!!!!!
Just need to put the barrels back on the engine, and then the heads, and its all back in to the frame for the rebuild.
Stripping the loom too this week, some more bits off to paint in the next week too!

David, clearly, if you have a skilll, you should flaunt it. But if that skill is with a water-based lubricant, you have to be prepared for the world to view you in a whole new light.

OK, Ollie, my young innovator buddy, if you left the outer bearing shells in the headstock on purpose to make cleaning the faces up easier, why did you spend 15 minutes cleaning the coating off the inside of them before deciding to remove them? Chuffinell, Ollie, I'm the one with Alzheimer's.
In general, though, Ollie is right. We still have a shedload of work to do, but now it feels like we are rebuilding, not dismantling, and that is a good feeling. The engine casings looked better once all the grotty old paint had been removed, and I'm betting they'll look desirable after finishing. Frame and forks are on their way back together, the wheels are in my car to take to be blasted in preparation for finishing, and the engine ready for reassembly once we have the casings back.
On the subject of the engine, Ollie, I do think your Mum is incredibly tolerant to let you clean the barrels off in the kitchen sink. They were not a lovely sight . Or maybe you didn't tell her?
