Desmosedici RR - Dealer says £37,500

Went to my local dealer this afternoon - Snells Alton - and they said this.

£37,500; initial production run of 400; production starts next month. From 10:30 on Fri June 1, the launch at Murgello, its a first come first served
basis, with preference for 999R owners #*&??$%!!!!!!!!!!

I have seen the special order form and yep if you own a 999R you put in the VRN and chassis number so they can check you do.

You have to put down a deposit of around a grand fill out the forms (you can put down a maximum deposit of £2100, but it won't make a difference) and the dealer sends it off to Ducati UK and you wait and see if you are lucky. If you aren't you get the money back. If you get into the 400 you could expect to wait until 2007 before you get your bike, although every Ducati dealer will get one for the show roomn at some point. If you are succesful and the first on the the list at your dealer that RR is yours..?? Not quite sure about colours etc but I think there is a choice of red and white and white and red.

I'm going to stick a grand down and se what happens.

I might have a go at putting my name down as I could just get the money together if I was lucky enough. Insurance might cripple me though.

Putting a deposit down is easy it's getting the insurance that is the hard bit most probably. I'll phone around a few insurance companies on monday but if it's more then £1500 a year then sod it.

Mind you, you could bribe a 999r owner if you reeeeeeeeally wanted one I surpose.

Bike: 06 749 Gloss Black

Personally speaking, it'd be finding the other thirty six and a half thousand pounds to spend on a bike which would be the hardest bit!!

On the price Ducati say £37,500 is the guide price but it is up to each individual dealer and customer to come to an arrangement on price.

I didn't read the small print. You get a three year warantee plus three years free scheduled servicing. The spec sheet is awesome. You have two colour scheme choices...both red. One is the R scheme and the other one mirrors the team colours. They even supply a pack of Moto GP sponsor transfers for the bike to mirror who actually sponsors the team when you get your bike. The dealer then fits on your instructions. Also each bike comes with a full race kit taking the power to over 200hp. This includes race a 4 to 2 to 1 race can plus a race ECU plus other bits.

I haven't checked out the insurance yet.. might be completely OTT

I want to ask about some details about the reservation process etc but my gut feeling is reserve one hope and worry about paying if the problem arises. This thing will be a collector's item.

No one has it listed yet, all they could compare it to was something like the GSXR 1000 and that was hidiously expensive to insure anyway.

But that's what I'm planning on doing, put a deposit down and wait. I can afford to say goodbye to £1000 for a couple of months just to see if I could get one. If they wanted the full amount a year or so in advance of receiving the bike there is no way could afford it.

Anyway the NR750 was roughly the same price with inflation and they've held thier value well, they only built 250 and it didn't come with any extras plus it wasn't the fastest bike on the road at the time.

Yep I've done it. Put me grand down and am on the list. Will have to wait until the end of September to find out where exactly on the list I am.

As a lowly ST4s owner it could be number 703 and a wait of nearly two years..?? I could be utterly disappointed or alternatively it could be and lots of soul searching to work out how to raise the remaining dosh, thinking about how you justiy it all and having serious second thoughts.
I mean it's not like spending this amount on a car that everyone in the family can get use out of. What happens if no-one wants one and their perceived value plummits? I better shut up or I will be on the phone taking myself off the list.

As they say 'You've got to be in it to win it', and in this situation waiting to see what happens could be too late as the reservation process works on day/hour/minuite basis and none of us can pedict the outcome of this particular situation.

I MUST BE MAD.
