Well I would say that big thresher in front would help in case of pedestrians running in front of you

Hi again Lucas,
As I said before I've owned and been riding Ducati's since before they turned to belt driven cams.
When the 1st 500cc Pantah's arrived I rode quite a few of them, I thought that they were smooth revey and lacked the torque/feel of the big 900cc Bevel twins...
In short if you closed your eyes while riding one you could easily have thought that you were actually riding a 550cc Honda four.
The lacked the character/feel of the singles or the big V twin bevel bikes that had come before them.
Now these Pantah's were the 'Daddy' of all of the belt driven camshaft Ducati's that followed right upto the latest 1098R.
If they'd never been built you'd never have got to ride the modern V twin Ducati's that you so enjoy today.
My point being that Ducati introduced a more modern design back then and they've just introduced another!
If I come up on the lottery the only modern bike (available today) that gets into my dream garage would be the V four Desmosedici Ducati, I'd also love to own and ride a Honda VFR 750 RC30 and a Yamaha TZ750.
In fact the only bike I'd swap my owned for 0ver 29 years 900SS Bevel special for would be the Yamaha!
I'm no snob when it comes to bikes, a good/fantastic bike is a good/fantastic bike no mater where in the world it was built and I own four classic Ducati's...
A bevel driven camshaft 250cc Desmo Single, 900SS Bevel driven camshaft V Twin, Rubber toothed belt driven 4V per cylinder 851/888 and another 851/916SP.
I love all of these bikes, but I can't deny that the Testastretta motors of the latest 749/999/848/1098's are better motors they are!
But I don't want to own one, for me they lack the character/feel of the earlier motors.
They're still Ducati's just not ones that I want to own!
Steve

Do they still make motorbikes?
I'd love to own a 750SFC, you can keep the old lardy bus Jota's...
They weren't that fast my old bevel would see one of them off back in the day!

Steve I am only affraid that Ducati will go down the road that many other car manufacturesrs and some bike one's did. Again Porsche was exclusive car only and now family cars. MAsseratti fast cars and now a 4 door saloon. Ferrari is thinking about a 4 door saloon.
Harley now and old days none of their custom bikes are custom. At the moment Indiana is a old custom harley.
I only not want that to happen.

Everything evolves, If the other big 3 Japanese manufacturers had continued making two strokers where would they have been? If Honda had continued on the 4 stroke only route where would all the NS hooligans have grown up?
Triumph and triples? I like to remember the days when it was twins only.
The more things change................

Laverda is a case of an engine not evolving, they basically reworked an old engine until it became so unreliable and tuned to destruction.
I had a later Zane 650 Formula, superb to look at, nice handling etc. But a wheezy engine ( even with fuel injection ). It also makes my 900 2 valve engine sound quiet, you should have heard that thing rattle, it was frightening. Got plenty of attention in the car park though

In the early 70's one of my mates bought a Laverda 750 sf2, didn't last five minutes.....a few days after he bought it [new] it rained..that was the start of the end, chrome gone, white aluminium, and lots'a rust. Not long after, it blew up, he had it fixed so it blew up again, fixed again to get rid of it.......blew up again on the way to Slaters. Very pretty though, and sounded lovely when it ran....

Interesting wish list Mr R. I havn't tried the VFR or RC but I did ride a TZ750 many years ago on the M25 between Sth.Mimms & Potters Bar and it does make surprisingly good road bike although the maint.schedule is a little unrealistic for regular use.

Hi Hugh,
I've ridden a VFR but never the RC30 which's real name was the VFR RC30.
I raced a Yamsel TZ350 and owned some very fast RD's inc' a Terry Beckett RD350YPVS Proddy tuned bike that ran 137 mph at Elvington on the flying mile, I needed to rebuild the topend on that one every 2,000 miles.
I'd swap my beloved 'Beverly' and probably my children for a TZ750 or at a pinch a TZ700.
Steve

The Quattroporte is no ordinary saloon. It is the only true supercar with four doors that you can buy - there would be one on my drive if I could afford it I'll tell you.
