Desmosedici - What does it mean?

Always on the look out for a new jacket and I have spied quite a nice reasonably priced yellow jacket. However it has Ducati Desomosedici on it.
Of course I do not have one on order ( desmodesici that is, shame ) so I do not want to wear a jacket if it is solely for that beast. Does the word mean something else in Italian?, I cannot find a translation anywhere.

I'm fairly sure it refers to an engine type Steve. It would be good if someone in the know posts a list of the various types of Ducati engines and what they mean, i.e. the type of engine that they are.

The internet says.
Desmosedici is a compound word made from the Italian for sixteen, "sedici" and the name of Ducati's trademark desmodromic valve design.

steve, boo749s has got it spot on

Desmosedici derives its name from Ducati's hallmark desmodromic-valve system -- and from the sixteen (sedici) of them it contains

OK here is my entire grasp of Italian.

Testastretta - Narrow head
Quattroporte - Four door
Desmoquattro - four valve desmo
Pizza - Makes you fat
Nastro azzuro peroni - Makes you drunk (and poor)
Bella Lasagne - Pontypandy cafe owner

Italian is also not on my list of languages that i can order beer in.
Paivi help!

The basis of the design of the Desmosedici engine is two classical Ducati V-Twins next to each other, making a V-Four. With four valves per cylinder, the total number of valves is sixteen - Desmosedici means desmo sixteen in Italian

Una birra, per favore! Or, if you're thirsty, due birre, per favore!

And, btw, unlike the convention, the syllable stressed in 'sedici' is the first one, so it's pronounced see-ditchi, not se-diiiitchi.
