Homologation and superbike racing

Stupid question time:

Is there a reason Ducati can't go superbike racing with the Desmosedici RR?

From what I've been able to dredge up on the internet, the minimum required production numbers are something like 150 publicly available bikes for a manufacturer that manufacturers 50,000 bikes.

So how many Desmosedici RRs would Ducati need to make available to take it WSB racing? (I've no idea how many bikes Ducati make per year these days)

There was no reason, other than Ducati said that the RR is an exception and that they want to race in WSBK with what they build for the road, and that's Twins. However, rumour has it that homologation rules will drop the small volume dispensation from 2008.

My understanding is as Rod has said!

The tradition is the V-Twin and they want to kepp it that way. The RR is 37K on the road so its not your every day Ducati Sale!

If ducati where to do that then you know the Japs would bring out a V5/V4 moto gp rep and then your'll have a WSBK championship with basically road going GP bikes!

Anyway with the current power the WSBK are putting out theres not alot of differance! only really weight!

Any way look at the FP1, holomagation! mmmm!

Roll on the 1200r!!!!

Bike: Monster 1100 soon!

Exactly right, the Desmosedici is a high-end special, not mainstream and Ducati's ethos is for a desmodromic v-twin to be their signature.

Digressing slightly, I heard rumours that there was going to be a meeting in Mugello to hopefully ratify use of the 1198R in WSBK next year; has anybody heard anything either way yet?

My understanding is it that its been agreed they will be used but with a hanicap system in place!

I belive BSB have sorted al their bits and pieces out and obviously superstock are running the 1098!

Who really knows until they release it! i bet corse have it all sorted! i saw a pic of a 1098 in testing with a 1200 engine!

i bet they have it sussed!

Should be interesting! just makes you wonder what the japs have in store!

2008 shouldbe a very interesting season indeed!

Thanks all.

It makes a lot more sense when you look at it from the point of view that Ducati's primary purpose is to build and sell bikes.
