Desmosedici longshot...
Hmmm, I got a mail from my mate Wilf at Motorapido the other day offering a trip to Milan next month for anyone who books their Desmosedici order with Motorapido - top marketing I thought!
I mean, it's a struggle to explain any "boys toys" purchases of more than a couple of hundred quid to one's other half isn't it? Let's be fair, you can't get home and say "hey honey I've just ordered a new bike for next year!" and not be asked a question or two about it can you??
So I played the sketch through in my mind -
moose - "hey, we've just got a nice little trip to Milano before Christmas - sight-seeing, shopping, cool fashion, restaurants bars - whaddya think?"
my lady - "howdya get that sorted?"
moose - "all part of the deal on my new bike!"
my lady - "but you've only had the 1098 a few months!?!, what's so special now that you're swapping again???"
moose - "a new sparkly Desmosedici! it's just the most bestest gotta have superdoops road going track rocket those lovely Ducati peeps have created to date!
my lady - "oh yeah?!?!?! what's the benefit for me over the current bike apart from a weekend at the Milan bike show - and don't think I've been taken in by that cobblers of a cultural pre-chrissie shoppin' trip??"
moose - "errrrrrrrr, it's got a heated rear seat sweetheart!"
..... at this point in the sketch moose receives a slap to "the boys" with a fully blinged Prada bag and drops stage left...
Anybody got any good ideas for selling your thirty seven thousand five hundred pound (plus more pounds for a paint job) house remortgage bike purchase pitch to your lady????????
Yours, in anticipation, moose

hmm well if 40 of us all put in a grand each we could all have it for one week of the year, then the remaining 12 we could fight over/race for.
Or we could hire it out at race meets/track days to wealthy business types who want a small taste of moto gp action (for worthy price). Get some money out of it.........just a thought.

Does that include travelling time?
40 minutes on the plane and it's your time to leave....

One of my best mates is brother-in-law to Ron Haslam - yes, that Ron Haslam! Hmm, wonder how much we could make if we chipped in to buy the Desmocedici and then sold pillion rides with Ron & Leon??

How about trying to get us a Ducatisti-only discounted track day at the Haslam race school? (I know they provide CBRs but we could ride home on un-binned Ducs.)

I spoke with my mate and he said that his sister could get me a discount. I'm happy to ask about a group discount or to ask if they could arrange a group session specifically for Ducatisti if there are enough people interested. I'll ask what options they can offer and let you know.

What you need is some contrast......let me offer as an example a letter home from a university student (ah, letters....how quaint!) from Robert Cialdini's book "Influence", but you will need to adapt this theory to your own circumstances....
Dear Mother and Dad:
Since I left for college I have been remiss in writing and I am sorry for my thoughtlessness in not having written before. I will bring you up to date now, but before you read on, please sit down. You arenot to read any further until you sit down, okay?
Well, then, I am getting along pretty well now. The skull fracture and the concussion I got when I jumped out the window of my dormitory when it caught on fire shortly after my arrival here is pretty well healed now. I only spent two weeks in the hospital and now I can seeal most normally and only get those sick headaches once a day.Fortunately, the fire in the dormitory, and my jump, was witnessed byan attendant at the gas station near the dorm, and he was the one who called the Fire Department and the ambulance. He also visited me in the hospital and since I had nowhere to live because of my burnt out dormitory, he was kind enough to invite me to share his apartment withhis. It’s really a basement room, but it’s kind of cute. He is a veryfine boy and we have fallen deeply in love and are planning to getmarried. We haven’t got the exact date yet, but it will be before my pregnancy begins to show.
Yes, Mother and Dad, I am pregnant. I know how much you are looking forward to being grandparents and I know you will welcome the baby andgive it the same love and devotion and tender care you gave me when Iwas a child. The reason for the delay in our marriage is that my boyfriend has a minor infection which prevents us from passing our pre-marital blood tests and I carelessly caught it from him.
Now that I have brought you up to date, I want to tell you thatthere was no dormitory fire, I did not have a concussion or skull fracture, I was not in the hospital, I am not pregnant, I am not engaged, I am not infected, and there is no boyfriend. However, I amgetting a “D” in American History, and an “F” in chemistry and I want you to see those marks in their proper perspective.
Your loving daughter,
Sharon

I like the way your thinking,
"Hello MasterCard. can you raise my limit to £39,000 please"
"Ok Dear don`t talk to me for two weeks then. I`ll just be out on my bike."

Okey dokey, P11 Rob also said similar so I'll investigate options for Spring 2008.
