Have any of you guys rode the older ss and..

a 1000ss? What or how would you describe the differance? I find the old shape comfy so hows the new shape?
I sat on a Mille yesterday and boy, it felt like my a$$ was in the air and the bars were by my b##ls somewhere! Is it the same for the later ss?

The old carby SS is a very comfortable bike
The injected SS is a little more focused, slightly more weight on the wrists and a higher seat, but it's only a pain in town - on the open road it's riding position feels perfect and it's comfortable for 300 miles plus a day. Handling very good, as with the old SS, engine is a little smoother and revs better at the top end with similar midrange torque. Pillion provision is pretty good and underseat storage is excellent!! (both better than the carb SS).
Ther aren't that many 1000SS bikes around but the 900 is almost as good and seems good value at the moment, you can pick up a good one under £2K. Later 900SS bikes (2002 on) had the ohlins rear shock and five spoke marchisini wheels carried over to the 1000SS.

Just thought i'd add mu tuppenthworth in having had both a 900sl and a 1000ss and now returned to a 900sl .

The later ie bikes are massively different to ride compared to the carb bikes for comfort and I'd go so far to say nearly 916 like in the comfort stakes. I think the bars arent significantly lower or saddle/pegs higher its just theres more stretch to them from the saddle, making them feel lower. This also puts the torso/thigh at a tighter angle so making that feel more extreme too. Just cos you like the old carbies doesnt mean you'll like the later ie bikes...

Thats the impression I get from just looking at them Macca. Perhaps I'll have to switch to a monster as I get older
