Bought a crash damaged 1000SS in September to add to the garage-intended to use it as a cheap track bike but have got a bit carried away and the rebuild has started-will keep you posted.

Great choice of bike, I'd love one, had a 900SSie and loved that too! I shall have a 1000DS one day soon
As for improvements, I take it you have open cans on it? Cos that's number one, DP or Remus are favourite. Open airbox, free flow air filter and power commander are next, followed by high compression pistons and a lightweight flywheel. Set the suspension up correctly (they're too hard as standard) and go up two teeth on the rear sprocket.
Is that enough to go on with for now???

"Open airbox, free flow air filter and power commander are next, followed by high compression pistons and a lightweight flywheel."

Going a bit further than that Zimbo, open airbox-check, free flow filter-check, light flywheel-check, 1078 big bore-check, performance cams-check, gasflowed heads-check, siamesed pipe with performance can-check, single seat-check, rear sets-check, nose cone fairing-check, remove lights and indicators-check, special JHP ECU-check(probably), Brembo radial brake and clutch pumps-check, kevlar hoses-check, Brembo P4 calipers-check.................should be fun on road and track both.

That's pretty damn neat... way better than the 1098 in my humble op...
