1000ss Daft Question (Removing Fairing Panels)

Please excuse the daft question but how long does it take you to remove the fairing panels from your 1000ss for cleaning and/or oil changing?

I know this seems silly but I've read posts where people have stated that it can take ages to remove fairing panels on the ST and 916/996/99 ranges.

Do you think it's worth converting to Zeuss fasteners?

Cheers

i guess it depends on what you consider a long time/how valuable your time is. It only takes me a 3-4 mins to strip all the plastic off my 749 and i dont think thats an excessive amount of time. I think it takes me longer to put all down gently an safely {and out of the dogs' reach}.

PS

there are no stupid questions...only stupid people

On the basis that the 1000 is simillar to the 900ss, it takes about 15-20 minutes to remove the lower fairings and belly pan once you have all the tools ready. The little rubber gromets holding the brass nuts are a pain at times when replacing so it might take a little longer to reverse. Keep the screws matched to the nuts they came out of for the easiest time re-fitting.

If you have a carpet on the garage floor it will help keep your panels from any marks as you remove them, the fastenings under the belly pan need you to get down on the floor if you don't have a bike lift.

Remember to tell your wife that the only place that's safe to clean you fairing panels is in the new bathroom, they don't take kindly to working it out for themselves.

Unsure about 1000, but 996 etc are off in literally seconds each side, piece of cake. My brother has a Hayabusa and can't believe how quick it is, Viva Tamburini!

ST is horrid.

bottom fairings easy - 5 mins

Middle fairing is mounted under top and nose fairings
those come off by removing instrument surround, mirrors, etc - 15 mins

Then middle fairings - 2 mins

of course, where is the battery located - under the middle fairing

It's quicker to take the middle fairing off with the half belly pan, fiddly bit can be re-connecting the indicators.

Hi, I've had the fairing off on my 1000SS a few times now and it's probably around 10 mins in total.
It's not difficult at all and once you've done it a few times, you can get the time down.

good luck
Willie
