Headlight bulbs

I did a search but couldn't find a definitive statement...

Leaving aside HID conversions, has anyone installed a non-OEM high power H11, and if so, did it help the main beam?

As far as I can work out (and as per a Bike review), the dipped is OK, but the main makes SFA difference.

I know the bulbs make a difference on other bikes (dipped and main), but I don't know about H11 and the 1098.

Thanks!

John

Yep, I fitted Philips type and now instead of seeing a murky area 4 metres ahead I get a bright white area. I does make a difference to being seen in the rain and daylight

I have a Hid on dip and H11 blue/white on main, the HID on main developed a fault. You can pick them up in Halfords for £17-£19.

Gav (998GSB) commented on how bright the HID was when riding behind him in Europe. The blueness of the light might have been tinted by coolant from his bike mind!

I don't want to talk about coolant...just replaced my radiator.

Anyway, fitted some Osram nightbreakers (as I couldn't find any H11s at Halfords).

Seems better, though I've not been out in the dark yet.

That's the bulb type/size if you like. They have a black plastic insulator on the bottom that is at right angles to the bulb, your wiring loom connector fits onto this piece, you then clip on the spring bulb retainers and replace the black plastic covers by the air duct covers. I's a 5 minute job to just replace both bulbs. You might want to re-aim the main beam so that you don't disturn the wildlife in the upper reaches of tress etc though!
