A useless fact for 1098 anoraks like me

I bent the side-stand of my bike when I fell off it last month, and a new one, which is common to the 848, base 1098 and 1098s costs an unbelievable 85 quid! I got a stand from a race team, new, much cheaper as they were selling off all the road parts from a brand new 1098R. I thought the only difference was the R's stand was black, but no, the 'footprint' bit that rests on the floor is about 30% bigger than that of the S. Bugger knows why but I bet a new one from Ducati costs a lot more than 85 quid.

That is quite handy having a bigger foot on the stand...i often worry that on a hot day...not that we see that many at the moment...my stand might sink down into the tarmac.

What did you have to pay for your new 'dark' stand?

20 quid - the bloke agreed to the deal before I told him how much they are new, and he just laughed. I agree - the stock silver stand does give the impression that it would cause the bike to sink into the tarmac and fall over on a hot day.

That was a good investment indeed...i dread to think what it would cost new?

My old Harley had a massive foot on the stand...no worries when parking it on my gravel driveway...i now have a puck (only about £3) which i leave on the driveway when i go out for a blast.

£85 was for a standard replacement stand...not a sexy new black 1098R version!

I find the cheapie/free pucks you get in the mags quite useful but some are flexy. what are these things made of, some are good some are rubbish. Other people tell me they use a coke can - uh?

Used the top off an onion jar today Rockjock. Also carried a 6 inch nail to push through the centre if it was on soft ground. Tight...me...you betcha!

yeah especially when you turn up and have to park on grass, 1 x squashed coke can is a saviour!!
