I have a JHP quick action throttle fitted to my 749r, much better over the standard set up.

Still seems a long "twist" to get to full throttle when standing still and playing with the throttle, but, on the move it is much improved.

quick action throttle

my friend had a 1098s with standard throttle, which i thought was way too long. when i bought my 1098r from protwins they fitted a ducati quick action throttle. i can't fault it. it did cost over £450 fitted, but it's a big improvement over the standard one.

Wow, that is hellish expensive. You could see if JHP make one. The 749r one is a new ally throttle tube with a much larger cam on the end to reduce the travel of the throttle. It uses the standard throttle housing and cables.

Pro Twins fitted it to my 1098s and a great improvement.. Gets rid of the initial free play too but didn't cost anywhere near some of the figures quoted. Had it done with the 1st service @ £289.00 incl VAT but labour content not separated, so allowing for an hour £325'ish sounds right.

Read in an American forum ( Ducati.ms) that there is a cheap way of converting your throttle to a quick action throttle. According to the post that I read you need to swap your Ducati throttle tube with the throttle tube off an R1/R6. Seemingly a straight swap at a fraction of the cost.Someone might know better though.

I agree that it is an improvement. I had it done when ProTwins (who are good but very expensive) did the warranty recall on the rear sprocket and ECU re-map, hence the warranty work covered part of it as there is an overlap. I think it added about £250 to the bill overall. On the 1098 it reduces throttle rotation by circa 30 degrees and has minimal freeplay.

However - although it makes the bike feel much sharper, and gets rid of that throttle jiggle effect on bumpy roads, I am not sure that it is worth the sorts of figures quoted here unless you plan to run the bike on the track.

AJB01,

I disagree with you. I had my throttle done last year at Protwins and I have noticed a big difference. The bike is much smoother to accelerate whereas previously you needed two twists of the wrist to really get things going. Its an expensive modification but in mho it's worthwhile.

Has anyone found and can post a link to the R1, R6 throttle swap thread that delivers a fast action at a fraction of the cost?
If it's already been done apologies.

I did a quick search on Ducati.ms and although I didn't find anything on using equipment from another stock bike, I did find the following links to other aftermarket throttles which would undoubtably be cheaper than the Corse option:

Racing Throttle - Quick turn adjustable throttle
Motorcycle Racing Spare Parts and Accessories by RED Racing Parts
