Cool 1098R safety recall

Hi all

Took my 1098R [09] back to dealer yesterday as it was recalled!

Issue is cracking to bottom of fork on right front - get it checked now - don't wait.

Dealer has to take out front wheel etc.

I had an e mail from my dealer [SS Norfolk] and they have been on the ball and e mailed me as soon as they were aware.

Cracking not found on mine but parts are on order as Ducati /Ohlins are to replace just in case.

This may mean a complete new front right fork but I don't know that - the issue may be a casting defect.

Although a pain at least Ducati are on the ball and if you have a good Dealer you should be made aware now or very soon.

Phil

Phil

Thanks for the info.

Just spoke to my Ducati dealer who told me that they were only aware of a recall for the street fighter.

Maybee best if I call Ducati UK next week for clarification.

Cheers

Rich

So is this a bad batch of castings or are other models involved? Is the part in question Ohlins or Ducati?

Good point... wonder if I should be worried about the Ohlins on my 848 that were probably manufactured around the same time.

I would say its Ohlins fault

-Description of the technical problem
Fork bottom end machining does not comply with design specifications

No... I have Ohlins R&T forks on mine which would have been manufactured by Ohlins about the same time. Just wondered if any of their other forks (i.e. mine) share the same part as the Ohlins on the R. If it is the fork bottom in the picture, then mine looks a little different.

Hi All,

I checked with my local dealer (Ducati Leeds) Was advised that the recalls were on frame no's starting with 02.

An Example
ZDMH702AB8B(02****)

Mine wasn't on the list... Thanks for the heads up though

Interestingly the fork and bottom casting are listed as one part - not sure if this means that the two parts were originally matched at Ohlins production line then sent off to Ducati.

This has implications for the recall work as perhaps we should insist that the complete unit is assembled as per production line - Ohlins may wish only to change the bottom casting - not sure dealers are up to this - as the part is listed by Ducati as one part [fork + bottom casting attached] it would seem prudent [costly may be] to ensure pre assembly quality is maintained.

I am going to contact Ducati Bologna and put this point.

Because its the right hand fork casting [when comparing it to my 09 1098R] it will thus only effect new models with DTC as presumably this was the batch that ohlins were producing at the time. Look also at the frame number info listed by Samebi and pics from Phoenix.

Why? does the bracket for the speed sensor not just fit between the fork leg and the brake caliper with a thinner spacer...I think you'll find that the fork leg is no different to any other Ohlin shod 1098.
