Braise or Weld

And the exhaust saga goes on and on.......

There are no exhaust clamps on my replacement pipes, for some reason they've been chopped off by the previous owner. Why, who knows!
I can't fit the old clamps because for starters the 600 pipes arn't as wide as the 900s'. Unless any of you guys have a better idea, the only thing I can think of doing is to :
File the inside of the old clamps to fit the wider 900 pipes
Cut off the collars and slide the clamps on.
Replace with the 600 collars, which will then also give me the right collar thickness.
Now heres my all important question, would I get away with braising the collars back on or should I get them welded?

Cornish Duke, I had a similar problem with a Suzuki and a Yoshimura set up many years ago. After about 4 attemps at welding collars on and the pipes cracking within a few weeks I ended up braising them and never had to repair them again. My theory was that the extreme heat, thin wall pipe and the weld HAZ could not cope with the thermal shock of going from cold to hot to cold so often. Braising the joints gave a softer/malleable joint which was not so brittle and hence lasted.

For me braising would be a better solution, however either is likely to fail over a period time

No they havent, as they are not the same style as the 600 ones, they are actually loose items, you have a flange that fits over the headders and can come off without cutting.

To hold them on you have to use the special 900ss flanges and also 2 1/2 rings on each one, would be easier to show in a picture.....

flanges and half rings are about £50 for the 2 sets..

oh and you couldnt really mod the 600 ones to fit either..
