Ducati 600ss Custom Exhaust?

Just wondered if anyone has built their own exhaust system? im lookin at doing on for my 600ss project!

i was looking at a 50mm from the header as i have found the header is approx 47mm and the OEM exhaust is 35mm.

i was going to do a 50mm straight through!! for fun! lol

Anyone know how performance maybe affected? good or bad!

Bad. Loss of torque in the midrange, no corresponding power increase high in the rev range as the intake airflow is severely limited by the long inlet tracts and small valves.
You're very unlikey to get any measurable power increase by fabricating a custom exhaust on a 583cc bike, might as well stick with standard headers and race can. The two can system off the 750 breathes slightly better than the single can setup at high RPM.

Thanks for the advice Zimbo,

im buliding a special so im not worried about the power to much, hopefully it will be used for quick blasts!

ive been checking today and the 996 45mm exhaust has an OD of 47mm whicj fits nicley into the inlet port!

with a little playing about i should have a 996 pipework system in the bike!

ill post pics and let you know how i get on!

Please do. A dyno run would be really useful too! Good luck!

Hi there,
standard is a wee bit less than that -if yer lucky you can get a stage 2 kitted 600 to somewhere around that. i think mine has a whopping 54! That's with a stage 2 dynajet, no airbox lid and open can. Along with losing a bit of weight here and there and some dynacoils though mine goes way past 9 grand in top gear (before it could only get up to 9K with a following wind!) which I think is a fair bit above 115. Mine is an import so it's in km's but I think I get somewhere between 200 and 210km/h. I stuck a 15 tooth cog on the front to see what happens and although you lose a bit on acceleration you get much more on the top end....

Stock 600s with open airbox, race can and stage 2 dynojet kit put out between 50 and 53bhp at the back wheel. Should do around 125mph flat out.

ill have to check it out when i get it sorted! i have a low milage engine so with the bits im doing it should be ok!

ill proberly be changing the sprockets to give it more acceleration than top end! going for the street fighter-monster style! something a bit different!

There were three variants of gearing with the 600 engine so what gearing would depend on your model. RPM - should top out an about 9500 in top.

See here - stock 600SS, 15 stone rider, speed logged is true GPS. (you'll need the latest Quicktime version)

I had a custom exhaust built for the DD bike. 600SS. Used 40mm headers. 2-1 with an underseat can.
Zimbo's right, any bigger and you'll knock the mid range out.
The biggest improvement we got was by equalising the headers. The stock rear is much shorter than the front.
50-54 rwhp is about it from a 600 ............... depending upon the dyno of course
