Carb Removal
Well, i was surposed to be 'working from home' today! LOL ending up sorting out my new rearsets for the 996, a quick balst down the road to get some S/Steel bolts (Sh*t was it fresh!!)
and then stripped off the carbs from the 600ss, what a mess, you dont reliase how much crud gets up there! looks like ill be setting a day to give them a good clean and polish!!!
havent managed to drop the engine out yet but its getting closer! LOL

Engine Removal
The story continues!!!
Well i managed to grab a few moments to try and get the engine out!
Dropped the forks out complete with wheel, removed rear swinging arm and shock!
Managed to get the frame and engine onto my bench to remove the engine!!
Had a few issues with the main engine bolt!! the 2 side ones came out no problem but the main one was stuck fast!! i had a allan key with a breaker and it bend it! totally seized!
Had to drill the bugger out and the cut it ! luckerly ducati bolts are quite soft! LOL
Hopefully will get the heads swapped over with my fettled ones, get the frame cleaned and painted and hopefully have a rolling chasis again before xmas!
Still to decide on frame colour black or red!!!!
I have pics of the above items and will post later!!

Ive been busy cleaning up the engine externally before going in deeper! LOL
the 1st pic is before and the last is the most recent! still cleaning away so hopefully it should look pretty good when its done!
I have also loosened 4 out 8 of the head bolts, i need to customise a 15mm spanner to get to the others as i dont have the 'ducati' tool!
Now the frame is off thats the next clean and paint, ive decided to go black and silver like the NCR special.

ive got some softish wire drill bits that i started in a cordless drill and now have in a speed drill.
i was going to use a grinde and wire brush but decided its a bit harsh! once all ther surfac cr*p is off (which it nearly is!) then ill give it the once over with autosol for a final clean!
its got to got clean and shiney but not like on a Harley! LOL
New Stainless engine bolts should finish it off! a clean of the black fins on the barrels and then replace with new reburbished heads and matched carb headers

Looking very nice indeed DB and definitely a labour of love. If you continue with the hard work you're putting in now she's going to be a beauty when she's done.
What colour are you going to paint the engine?

Cheers Dan, hopefully it should come out ok! i feel like i should be building a DD racer like all you guys! LOL
The good thing is if i decide to do the DD the following yea ill already have a good base to work from!
i was thinking of keeping the engine alloy, just giving it a quick polish and maybe the clutch access side black as its a different grade of alloy!
i want to keep it simple so just black and alloy. black frame and tank, a bit of carbon here and there and black spoked Excel type supermotard wheels!
my nephews are over to say for a few days so ill be giving them some autosol and polishing tips! LOL

Can you get a torque wrench on it ? Phil (Ghost) mentioned something to me about torque correction factor using it.
With the Motoreva stuff, I like the look of the 3 tool pack all in for £60. I emailed the site owner (Andrew Sexton) and he said to post to UK is an extra 5 Dollars.
