Members Bike - diamondbrit's Ducati 600ss Project

just thought id post a pic of the first real play ive had with my 600ss project.

All fittings are temp as im planning to completly strip the bike and re paint the frame, as you can seee i have my Ducati carbon number board!

also my newly made solid rear swingarm! to be painted black!

things to do still are:

new clock mount so the number board still sits right

no head light - so day time MOT

re do brake, throttle and cluch lines

replace faulty fork seal

replace clutch plates!

new racing rearsets

possible rear frame shorten and re location of ignition boxes and new seat section

replace heads with new refurbised ones! (currently siiting in loft waiting install)

custom exhaust, either side exit or under seat!

any comments or suggestions appreciated!!

If you have a single seat set up could exit the pipes through top of the rear cowl is in Desmosedici RR.

mmmmm! interesting question! lol

when i can grab a few hours here and there really! The Mrs has been without a bathroom for almost a year now, had to re-do the heating, new boiler take down a chimney and re board all the bathroom walls, ive promised it by xmas this year and hope to hve it complete before then!

when its done ill strip the bike down and replace the heads which are waiting ready! ive done the swinging arm as you can see so just need to tidy it up and paint!!

ill post more pics as i complete bits and pieces! i have just got some racing rear sets so ill be putting them on this weekend!

next big thing is sorting the exhaust! the OE 45mm 996 pipes seem to fit so that may be the next thing!

I know Ducati make the Monster but i think it looks quite different with the 600ss shape! lets see what happens!

but i cant promise quik progress Dan!! you know how it goes! LOL

New Racing Rear Sets

Well i have finally got hold of my new rearsets!

The delivery company deliverd them once! wasnt in! tried to call the depot! no answer!

Tried to deliver a second time then left a note saying 'please collect at depot'! tried to phone again! no answer!

went to get them from depot to be told 'ah you should of phoned they are still on the van!' (even though the note said to collect!)

arranged for some to be in but no joy!! phoned today and they are at the depot!

Anyway picked them up and the are pretty nice, machined alloy, slighty higher and further back than standard!

Not bad for £99, i dont know if any of he guys racing DD use them but they look pretty good.

Trouble is now they make the rest of the bike look even worst! (I will be replacing the rusty bolts with S/Steel ones by the way!)

more updates soon!

Do you have a 600 then Dan? im thinking blacl frame with standard red tank etc! then im thinking all black! MMM i just cant decide!LOL

New modified swinging arm will be satin black! hopefully can get some Black Excel rims too!

If the chopper boys can do it! LOL

i will also be shortening then rear end of the frame! might get that done at the weekend! (in between the DIY!!! ) lol

i will be using the rear seat section and re-using it to keep the stiffness in the frame! sould look ok a it shorter!

I have also been playing with the exhaust this week and im thinking i will keep the headers and sections of the heads as standard then where it goes 2 into 1 i can fit a 45mm exhaust section for a stubby can! mmm the list goes on! lol

Cheers XP at least it keeps me busy until i get my 1098s or maybe even 1098r! LOL

i rode the 600 for a bit when i started riding and im hoping it will be fun when i get it modified!

i keep playing with my pics so i get the look right but its a bit of see what happens really!

it will look alot better that the pics attached but you sort of get the idea! i think with black excel rims it will look quite nice!

The trouble is the time is taken up whn you put it back together as every bolt and piece of kit will have to be 100% or it doesnt go on! LOL

yeah that looks good but ill have it a bit higher up! i have the standard can which i have already modified (holes drilled internally) so it shouldnt be to difficult to set one up!

if i have a 45mm rear section i will try and get a termi and mod that! i have the standard ones from my 996 that i migh play with!

NEXT CHAPTER!!

Well, managed to get in the garage yesterday and pulled the grinder out! had a quick measure and then choppped! LOL

Im going to try and use the section chopped off, shorten it and re weld it into the tubing to keep the strenght in the rear and also it has a few mounting points that can be used.

also a pic attached of the standard headers with a 45mm rear section, just seeing what it looks like but it should be ok, i will try out a few other bits of tubing later on.

I fiited th original seat unit just to get a fell for spacing at the back, i might use it but it will be modified so you use less 'seat', we'll see what happens.

i should be dropping the enine out over the next few days so more on it way soon.......
