Ducati 748 - EVR 853 Big Bore Kit
Hello,
I'm toying with the idea of a 853 kit in my 748R.
Has anyone used the EVR kit, it seems very complete!
Edo Vigna Racing
I would like to have any input about this kit!
Thank you all

I've not used it but at €1.100 excluding VAT, that seems like a good price...

IMHO, it's a bit on the light side. If I was paying £60 an hour for a conversion I'd want to make sure it was done once and I wouldn't skimp on the quality of the bits I was having put in the engine.

Hi,
Just a couple of points to bare in mind before parting with you're hard earned.......
It has been pointed out on the DSC website recently, that the're some 748/853 kits being sold 'on the cheap' that use performance pistons which were ment for 916 motors.
These pistons have a different deck height.
When fitted to a 748 motor these kits give/result in a very low comp' ratio, which actually gives a decrease in BHP!
Also when fitting a 'Big Bore' kit, the pistons must be the same weight as the original items, or the crankshaft will need to be re-balanced, to not do this may/will result in a motor that vibrates and produces less power than a properly balanced one.
When buying a kit don't buy a kit intended for an 'R' or an SP/SPS, unless this is what you've got.
Fitting one of these won't turn your Bip into an 853 version of one of these.
To do this you'll need to change the heads, valves, cams, chip etc and even then your Bip bottom end won't really be upto the job!
Always do your research before going ahead and parting with any money.
Steve

It's because of that post that i'm asking information about the EVR kit.
I live in Portugal, and i'm jealous of you in the UK, you can go around the corner and find a Ducati 853 specialist, i can't do that in here. So if i can find a good base kit i can get my mechanic to mount it up.
I know that i could have better results with a head work, opening the throttle bodies and putting a spacer, but for that i would also need some serious dyno time and from what i know there isn't a FIM specialist in Portugal (I know it's sad.....)
So i'm stuck with a good base kit already with a chip and hope for the best......
The other option is getting a portable lambda probe and doing the tunning myself....

desmo, give the guys at ProTwins or MotoRapido a call. They'll be able to ship you a kit and can advise you on the right bits to get.
I know this cos I'm looking at doing the same for my 748R and both companies have been relly helpful.

With the correct parts/kit you shouldn't loose Horse Power, there should be a gain in both HP and torque.

yes and no
After the engine was installed we had to tune it up a bit and finnally the results pressed up. I have the dyno sheet I could scan for you guys but here are the finall results with a little increase of the numbers on my bike...
tq: 56.44 @ 8.3rpm
hp: 94.59 @ 9.7rpm
pretty decent results buts its no 1098.

I'm sure that's a good job you've got, but it seems a little light - I'd have expected about 10 bhp more. This could be down to the compression issues highlighted by Mr.R above.
I know that on the 748R, the issue is more pronounced as they have a different piston crown and combustion chamber shape that gives the bike higher compresson than the standard engine. You've got to be very careful to preserve as much of the compression as possible when going to 853. There are no 853 kits specificaly for the R and some tuners machine cutouts in the piston crown to give the valves room. Others use a flatter profile on the crown, and that is what leads to reduced compression. The issue is the same on E and S models, but less pronounced.

If your 853 kit is setup correctly it will definitely give you an increase in power as well as torque.
Neil Spalding at Sigma Performance is one of a few experts on this in the UK. Neil tuned my 996 with excellent results and also built my first racebike for the Desmo Due championship.
He has some articles on his website that talk about the conversion for both a 748bip and a 748R.
748bip-853
748r-853r
Happy reading!
