Slightly Juddery Front Brake? - 1997 Ducati 748 BP

well my brakes are starting to annoy me a bit now, they've been juddery for a little while. now that i'm riding the bike every day it's getting to me!

so.....i'm hoping it isn't warped discs (because i can't afford to get new ones yet!) but is there anything i can fiddle with/tighten in the mean time that might be causing the problem?

it only judders slightly when i put them on gently (like coming up to traffic), if i grab the lever hard going into a corner it's fine.

any ideas? cheers everyone xx

Do u lose any brake performance at any time??
It seems to me a "resonance" problem. If you substituted the pads with other brand is quite common.

It is normally annoying but not dangerous

Harrie Hi,

Have you checked your calipers? I think you've got 4 piston, 2 pad calipers. Sometimes if you have a piston sticking (caused by a build up of brake dust) it can cause juddering as one edge of the pad is contacting the disc slightly before the other. Worth checking

My brakes displayed the same character. It turned out that the pads had kind of glazed. The pads were replaced and the vibration and wobbly feeling has gone. The bike stops alot better to.

cheers chaps,

i haven't checked anything yet as i really wasn't sure where to start but will have a look at the calliper definitely. i think you're right, 4 pistons and 2 pads but will check tonight.

i'm not losing any braking performance and when i had my suspension done darren at mc technics took it for a test ride and said it was a bit juddery but nothing serious. but i'm picky and like i said, i've been riding it a lot recently so it's starting to bug me!

thank you

And glazed pads Harrie, can be avoided by a pretty set of wavy's, just like the ones I showed you tonight !
