New Forum Member..

Hi All,

Thought i'd just say hello to y'all

Pick up my 2001 748S next weekend.

Decided on a Ducati as a 2nd bike, currently have a 2006 Yamaha R6.

Just one question to ask (there is always a question)

The Showa rear shock is well past it's best.......... refurb or replacement ?????
and where and what is the best place to find one, done lots of research but not coming up with much

Welcome to the group, don't take it too serious there's alot of banter!

Perhaps the likes of an Ohlins rearshock from the classifieds or Flea bay.

Enjoy.

Can't help with your question, but welcome anyway!

How many miles has the bike done? Have you decided the shock is past its sell-by after a test ride? What were the symptoms? Perhaps on the basis of this info, some of the more suspension-minded types may be able to help. Also p'raps consider putting a separate forum post up there asking for some specific help on 748 rear suspension as that should help grab their attention.

You also might want to check out some of the groups (see Quick Links) especially as good ol' Box Hill ain't far from you.

Cheers
Ken

Hi,

The bikes done 19k with a full service history and paper work for every service and additional work done. the previous owner clearly looked after it and only ever had the work done at the same dealer it was origionally purchased from.

The only thing i could fault was the rear shock which not only looked tatty but at 19k its going to fooked.

part of the deal included new fork oil/ caliper overhaul/ belts and oil and filter.

Now looking for termi's or SIL exhaust system and new hugger as there was a hole in the origional.

Ordered new hugger/ Duz fastners and a few small item just to bring back the bling
oh and double bubble screen as lanky ****er 6'1

Yea I'm 6'2" and the double bubble on my 999 was great. Having said that I'm on the standard screen on me 848 and that's OK so far. Looking forward to seeing the pictures of your bike.

As suggested - see what replies (if any) you get on the rear shock query but if you get nowt then put up a separate note as it'll attract the attention of them wot know!

Welcome to the site Jon

Ebay is your friend for a lot of bits.

An Ohlins shock was on for 200 quid and there are plenty of cans.

You have a 45mm system at the moment so stick with that or get a 45/50 mm link pipe. Either way you can get various makes of cans.

Dzus fasteners are available on ebay too.

As for the hugger make sure that the rear wheel is adjusted correctly and the tyre has clearance.

Don't rely on your dealer.

Good luck and I hope the weather holds for Saturday.

A bunch of us are at Boxhill Saturday lunch time-ish.

Could you join us?
