Removing indicators from carbon fibre airtubes or perhaps airtubes in general

I need to fit a set of micro indicators to the front of the bike and need to remove the indicators, not sure what im doing wrong but there is a single bolt that appears to hold the unit to the airtubes. If I undo this it just spins, like there is a nut on the inside. Is this the case?

If so does that mean I need to remove the airtubes just to get the indicator off?!

Any tips on doing the above if I need to would be great, thanks.

The nut should be captive, but sounds like yours has worked itself loose.

There are 2 ways to fix it:

1. Use a rivnut tool to "crimp" up the rivnut (captive nut) again so it's tight. Unless you have your own rivnut gun or access to one, it's probably a waste of money to buy one just for this, so...

2. Get the top fairing off to give access into the air tube. Now you should hopefully be able to see the captive nut inside the tube. Grip it gently with a pair of pliers and undo the bolt. You'll want to set it back into the carbon with some resin or similar.

Be careful and take your time as the carbon is probably very thin and could be easy to damage or scratch the surface.

Be careful when you crimp the rivnut up so that you don't crack the carbon. There is now a very good tool on ebay (about £25) that does the job better than the plier type ones.

Perfect, removing the top fairing sounds like the easiest approach. By top fairing I presume you mean the nose of the bike?

Yes, although you'll want to remove the sides first!
