Thumbs up Nw big sprocket fitted

Let me tell you this it makes the bike so much better in all those reasonable speeds. You only lose out on the insane one's which is fine with me!
First thing I noticed is that I am not going as fast as before on motorway. Engine noise at x00MPH is just too much to call it a good cruising speed. At the moment good cruising speed ends at 80MPH it was a tad more before change to get the same level of engine noise. Forget about fuel economy as again if I am to go at reasonable speed around 80 I do not drop below 6k RPM which is 1k more than before. To be economical I need to stay at 70MPH max which is good for touring anyhow as engine noise is low, wind noise is low and fuel consumption will be as normal.
The acceleration bit, WoW so much faster and smoother and just easier ride. In city it is a dream, a new bike!! The best upgrade so far. I had managed to wee it on 2nd gear just using throttle, did not happen before! Oh yes I was told I will need to change gears a lot well no I do not.

Pictures new sprockets:

and chain

BTW rear sprocket is the same size as your rear brake disc
It looks better when symmetric.

Red face

So you have gone from a 38 tooth to a 39.

I think the 03 model had a 14 front, 39 rear

04, has 14 front, rear 38.

03 model out pulls the 04, 05 model. up to around 120mph.

Probably wrong.

Hi Lucas,
My eyes aren't that good these days, how many teeth has the new big sprocket got?
What size gearbox sprocket have you got fitted?

I once found a website that had the optimal sprocket settings for Ducati Superbikes. For Ducati 749S the optimal was 14 and 43, so according to that you are spot on. I´m thinking about putting the same 43 to my 749S also. The difference should be rather large as you have already told us.

Vinyl Decals

Ignore the Vinyl decals title, it's about gearing lol

Hmm, I've now discovered if I put the 41t on the front and the 14t on the rear, then my 749s will do 1225mph! I'm just nipping outside to swap them round.

I think somebody else has already done it in Cyprus, I got passed by a duc doing about 800 mph on the motorway to the 'lovely' Ayia Napa last weekend.

If it was a red 749, then it was probably me. If it was a 1098, then it would be a mate of mine. There's not many out here, especially in the SE. Cypriots prefer Busas & Harleys because they're scared of corners.

Ok, I was able to find the graph of recommended sprocket setting for Ducati´s

Found this from ducati.ms, so I guess it´s ok that I copy and show it here too.

Well, again, there's no real 'right' and 'wrong' here. Nothing's cast in stone, we can all run the gearing that suits us. These tables are only someone's suggestions.

Interesting, though, that the recommendation for the 749 is to go up 5 teeth (!) on the rear, whereas the recommendation for the 748 is to go up a much more modest 2 teeth (I realise the primary gear ratios are different, but still).

Is the 749 more over-geared than the 748? I'd have thought the reverse, personally, but still...

Of course they are opinions, but I just thought that I should post this, cos people were saying that you shouln´t go for 43 rear sprocket.

That was probably me...

Pehaps a better way of putting it would be "I wouldn't, but of course, you're free to do whatever you like..."

By any standards, a 5 tooth change is pretty drastic. IIRC, my suggestion was to go up just 2 or 3 teeth and see how you found that, before making such a big change.

But Luca's done it, and he's happy with it, so for him, that's all that matters.

You might be right and maybe if 41 means that the original chain still fits it might make a case, but then again with 43 rear sprocket the kick must be impressive when you are give it full throttle.
