my 749 is running like a bag of frogs!!
hi all, this morn i managed to get out on the 749 haveing not ridden it in a month, the things glugging and wont pull at low revs and got worse as the journey went along, i stopped for fuel thinking it may have been low .....but it was the same, so not wanting to get stranded i came back home . any ideas where to start would be a great help....thanks Daz

sounds a bit like an ignition coil? is it an early model? mine is and both have now been replaced with the new coils.

03 ones were well known for it, a simple job to fix, its basically the spark plug caps, down side is they aint cheap, so get it checked to make sure first.

its fairly easy, fairings and tank off, then they are just the plug cap with a connector block. As far as diagnosing them for defo i dont know, easiest if someone near you could borrow you theirs to try? TBH it would be best to nip it to speacialist or dealer to make sure. could always go down the second hand route, couple of Ducati breakers on ebay.

If it is the coils, you can change teh vertical one without removing the tank. Just unbolt the tank/seat as a complete unit, lift it up and prop it up with something. I use a cardboard box about 150mm high, vust under the back of the tank. Saves disturbing the fuel connections any more than necessary and potentially damaging an o-ring.

Yes. The later type of coils seem to be fine, but they're not cheap; around 80 quid each IIRC.

749 Poor Running
Hi, I had a similar problem with my 749 that turned out to be water in the front cylinder spark plug tube. Cleaned it out and put a wipe of grease around the coil top, problem solved. Worth a try.

I was going to mention fuel.
I recently took my blade off the road and stored all the fairings and tank etc in my spare bedroom.
This sat there for a month or so with a full tank of fuel.
I decided not to waste the fuel and used it in the duke, after 10 miles or so the duke began to run really poorly, fluffy at bottom end, and not pulling cleanly at all, neadless to say after filling the tank to the brim with super unleaded all began to very slowly get back to usual, untill after a full re fill with new and all was sorted.
Just thought i would mention this.
Also, on the coil front, i had a problem with my early model horizontal coil (error code 10.2) and after much frustration, new plugs, and eventually a new coil, not cheap! I found the problem to be the male section of the connector that goes into the coil itself, not the coil, there fore without buying a whole new loom, the only other thing i could do, was either splice a new weather proof three pin connector onto both the loom, and the old or new coil, or hard wire the new or old coil into the loom.
I decided to do the latter, so now have no connector on the front coil, and a spare for later.
Just thought i would let you know my coil troubles!
