Ah, what man was that? Most of the relays are BEHIND the 'electrical box'...to get to them you have to remove the battery, then take the battery tray out..its a nest of vipers behind there so have fun ! And whilst at it put a condom over the relays and starter solenoid to stop the rain getting in......

It's behind the battery mounting plate thingey. There'a a flexible heat-shield that protects the electrics gubbins from the heat of the exhaust header.Peel the bottom corner of the heat-shield away a bit, and you should see the relay.

I also recall there's a loom connection just below the battery tray that you may need to break first to gain access.

ive just done mine, it wasn't too bad - the only bad bit about it was I badly burnt my hand on the downpipe (where is pokes out near the bellypad.....)

Left hand panel off
Battery out
remove 4 allen bolts holding the battery box in
Pull the batter box out for access
remove 4 self tappers on the rear heat shield

relay is tucked in at the bottom front of the back of the box, you may be able to get to it by just taking the bottom 2 screws out and bending it out a bit, I chose not to do this just incase it broke.

can i ask why you changed yours hugepiece? so in theory your way is probably the easiest way! im changing mine due to an intermitant fault being eratic revs and a feeling like fuel starvation, told it may be plugs- coils but this was a cheaper starting point, i have new plugs on order aswell ,cheers

razdaz says he/she doesn't go out in the rain, but I do and last time I had a butchers around that area, chances of removing the self-tappers that hold the heat-shield in position = zero! They had corroded away to next to nothing.

Anyway, you don't need to remove the heat-shield completely to reach the relay; just bend it away at the front bottom.

And learn from hugepiece and do the job with the engine cold!

Basically I started getting an issue where i'd turn the ignition on and the fuel pump would not prime, id have to try a new times until it did. Then i''d be riding and the yellow light would come on, sometimes at a standstill it would come on and the bike would cut. I've only just had new throttle bodies and setup so I knew it wasnt them.

New throttle bodies??

On an 06 bike??

Was that really necessary?

Well, quite, Phil.

I suppose the origin of this is that the TPS is integral with the throttle bodies on the 749, (isn't it?), so any TPS probs and it'll be "Oh, you need a set of throttle bodies, Sir".

I shudder to think what they must cost. I know a TPS alone for my 748 (bought one for the 900 too) is around 150 quid.

well the throttle bodies were done under warranty by a main dealer, basically the bike kept cutting out on tickover. They tried to adjust first.
