Running super unleaded to eliminate/reduce stalling
As above.
Anyone done it? How did you get on?
BTW I realise that expert attention to the fuelling system etc can pay dividends too, and I'll be due for a service fairly soon. This is more a short-term try-out, if you will.

It certainly does, the comment I got from the technician who has just serviced my 749 was that she has been running way to rich, he gave it a tweak and it is like I'm riding a totally different bike She's a lot quicker.
As for the fuel, i've tried it in the past and tbh I cannot notice any difference.

Get the fuelling sorted dude, after being set up by a Ducati main agent it was running pants took it to Pro team in Wimbledon they said it was running way to rich now it's fine.
Tried all sorts of different fuels when it was bad, couldn't tell the difference except in my pocket.

To be clear: it's not like the bike has been running like poo for ages and I've been too mean to get the fuelling sorted.
It's run perfectly all through the summer. But just in the last week or so, as the weather has got more autumnal (could be coincidence, but I think not), the stalling has returned. I'd hoped it'd gone for good.
Again, to be clear, this is nothing to do with the engine temperature. It's happening when the temp reading is in the 90's.
The super unleaded thing was suggested to me by someone very expert on Ducatis; I just wondered whether anyone here had any experience.

Hi
I had a bit of an issue with this on an ST4S and it was most apparent in Italy at wdw last year. It was in the high 30 degrees and the bike would stall in traffic enough times to make me want to throw it in the river.
A Ducati dealership owner that i was introduced to by the Uk MD suggested using the highest octane fuel i could get and running with the fast idle adjustment set to about 1400 revs .
This helped massively but did not entirely cure the issue. Its worse when the bike is hotter and on the face of it bears out the explanation i was given that its a symptom of modern highely volatile petrol evaporating in the inlets.
The trouble is i have a 998s that obviously runs on the same petrol and it is the best breathing bike i have ever had. In fact my 2 previous bikes a 748 bp and a 748R both breathed and ran perfectly.
My personal view is that its actually a function of the newer ECU thats in use now as the 3 other bikes were all of the older generation.
Whether it can be tuned out is another matter.

That's interesting, thanks.
Well, the damn thing didn't start this morning so I had to get the car out to go to work. I'll put it on the trickle charger overnight (it shouldn't need it though, considering it does 50 miles every day) and bung some super unleaded in and see how it goes.

Fred, dont know if it helps - but my 696 DOES run better (more crisp) on the 'spensive stuff. I'll report back again soon, as its going for a dyno next week.
We also use 'spensive stuff for the race bikes (M800's) tho these have gas-flowed heads, lightened flywheels etc - and properly set up PC's too.
AK also uses it in his (original era - 1980's) Lawson - this pinks if its not run on Shell Optimax.

If I run my 749R on super unleaded she only stalls approx 1 in every 10 road ends but with the ordinary stuff it stalls without fail every time I come to a road end.
Its a bit more expensive but sure so is a Ducati and weve all bought them

My 749 runs equally well on ordinary and super unleaded, but I use super anyway. It never stalls.
My Multistrada also runs on super and it stalls all the time, I'm expecting a service will sort it out.
